Hi Guys
Some months ago QEFI published my A7 as a free plan, well with big big appologies it has come to light that the indicated C of G position on the plan is incorrect and should be 8mm rearward of where indicated.
It is my error, when I transferred the position to the final plan I obviously took it from an original wing plan drawing and not the
one I finally used.
For anyone who has built the model I hope it was not too much of a problem at least it was in the safer direction.
For anyone considering a small quick build pusher jet, it really did turn out very well, and its performance from a basic 6V 400 is very good. "Just ammend that C of G".
Sorry again guys
Cheers Ron

I love the A-7 but do not get QEFI here in my area, from whom can I find this plan.

Hi Ron
Thanks for the "heads up" on this. But as you say at least it was in the right direction! :)

Hi Ron, I have that magazine and bought it off the shelf specifically because of that article you wrote. Great little jet! I think I will be building it some day soon just to have it, although I believe I'll be putting a 4 turn Mega and Lipos in there :D
I was thinking I may modify the design however to include a simple airfoil on the wing (sheeted foam core) versus the plank. I like the simplicity of the plank, but can you shed any light on to what your thoughts are on this "plank" vs. "airfoil" issue? At least if I went with the plank it would be cheaper and faster versus the sheeted wing, I still don't know what would be lighter. I wonder about the performance though?
Thanks for the great design and article, Ron. I'll note the CG to!

One of my wanna-do projets, and teh flat plate version sounds interesting.
Which copy should I be looking for, or does anyone have a copy )legal ones only, please!) that they don't mind selling?
Thanks!

Hi guys
A copy of the plan can be bought direct from QEFI for I think £5.

Ron, I am currently building your plan and am glad i found your C of G advice - thanks. It would have been nice if QEFI which i do subscribe to had published a note in a later issue about this. I will let you know how it flys when finished. In the meantime can you suggest a good web source for finding appropriate colour schemes. I do not know whether i'll paint it or cover it as yet but i do know i'll be starting with a mega 16/15/5.
Bye,
Mark.

Mark,
Glad to hear you are building the A7, Hope you enjoy it. My colour scheme I found in a book on the A7, if you search around you will find numerous schemes many of which are very striking.
My SLUF had a finished weight of 18.5 ozs with a 6 volt 400 on 8 1300 NiMih,s and considering a 400 type it was quite quick, I think with the Mega in the back end you had better hold on tight.
Good luck with it.
Cheers

Hi Eddie,
Sorry I have only just seen your August posting.
The A7 is obviously a small model and quite quick on its basic set-up if kept light. A proper wing section against a flat plate will obviously benefit any model, but for such a simple design I dont know if it would be worth the effort.
The fact that you are considering a Mega 4, I would proceed with some caution in such a small model. Having now experienced the 4 on 10 cells in the Pushy at 28 ozs, I think you would have one absolute rocket ship on your hands.
The standard set up does obviously loose out in the vertical, which would improve beyond all doubt with a 4, but flat out in the level? dont blink or you might just miss it.
If I was considering the Mega I think I would scale it up a bit.
Cheers

I have the /5 in my Guillows F-16 enlarged. 21ozauw, better than 1-1 thrust on 10 He's, 150watts. Jet was originally made for modified Hi-Line fan. Not enough power. Made it a pusher instead. Now waiting for good weather.

I just found the plans for the A7 "Sluf" and in the space of 2 hours built most of the fuse. Has anyone been flying this SP400 sized pusher jet with more modern equipment? I'm looking at a 2408-21 on 3s and an 8x6 prop. As I get closer to finishing it, I'll post some new photos.
*** Good thing about the CG ,thanks for letting us know (ok, 3 years later for me :))

I am using an AXI 2208/20 as a direct replacement for a speed 400 in some of my designs... though no pusher jets just yet. ;)
With a 7" x 5" APC propeller, there is an incredible increase in power on only 2S lipos over the brushed motor with a Gunther - on 8-cell NiMH's... :D
Low current too.
On 3S...

My father just finished building the A7 using the plans. I have yet to install the radio/etc. Does anyone have a suggestion on a modern power setup?
Here is a picture of the jet before primer. The red is body filler. I've also included a picture of the paint scheme I'm thinking about.
