The original of my "Hansa", the Heinkel He 5T have three open cockpits. The upper part of my model is sealed off with a waterteight floor and bolted down to the top longerons on a gasket of silicone sealer. I also give the joint a smear of vaceline everytime I take it apart. (Perhaps once a year).

To get to the charging connector and to be able to let the moisture out I have a hatch (trapdoor) in the bottom of the fuselage, hinged at the front and with a sliding latch at the rear. The hatch is also sealed with some vaceline.

BUT, another modeller in the area have got a "Hansa" with three open cockpits. "Much easier to pour the water out" says he.

If you use a ballon or a condome around the electronics, you must open it and let the moisture out after the flights. Might be nessesary if you fly from salt water but we only fly from fresh water.

Ivan Pettigrew does not fully waterproof his Floatplanes. He believes they need to dry out after an outing. Nothing but EP too and everything still needs cooling.
