View Full Version : Gyro problems

I have a Futaba 401 gyro that I just installed in my helicopter. My T/R
servo is a Hitec HS525BB which Helicopter World assured me would work great
when I bought the gyro. My problem is that in heading hold mode, the tail
wags like it's hunting for a heading. When I put a rudder command in it
begins to wag, getting worse and worse until I set the heli down. I tried
adjusting the delay on the gyro, but it didn't seem to help. It flys with
no problem in rate mode. Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong?

Delay or gain ?
Try turning the gain down while in HH mode. Usually by altering the ATV
points, for that particular channel, within your TX

What heli is it?
What Tx?
Wagging is normally a sign of too higher gain setting for that particular
mode. Obviously your gain setting for Rate mode is ok, but for HH you need
to adjust it down.
The 525BB isn't the greatest servo around, but for the price its pretty dam
good. I use one on the tail of me Hawk with no problems. However I can tell
its not as fast as the JR 2700 on the tail of me X-Cell.

I'll try adjusting the endpoints for heading hold and see if that helps.
Thanks for your help!

Not that it makes any difference.
It's a Hawk Sport

Hitec Eclipse 7
That does :-)

I'll try adjusting the endpoints for heading hold and see if that helps.
End points on the gyro SWITCHING channel are what you need to change,
(usually channel 5) NOT the end points on the rudder channel. (channel 4)

Thanks, I was wondering about that....

Well wonder no more Wendell, because if you change the endpoints on the
rudder channel (chan 4) all that happens is you change the SPEED at which
the heli's rotates with a tail rotor input. The higher the number, the
faster the spin and vice-versa.
