View Full Version : Prop variation for float planes

I have been using a 12/6 prop on my slow stick. On water take-offs occasionally the prop would pick up some water. (about 2 inches of clearance between prop tip and top of float)

I had a 12/6 prop with a split in the end, cut off 1/4 inch on each end to get rid of the split, and rebalanced using my hi-tec balancer(brass rod). The result was a 11.5/6 prop with square ends.

Now on take-off, no water pickup and very little noticable difference in performance. Curious if the extra 1/4 inch of clearance make the difference or does the squared end change the air flow. Anyway another variable in the world of R/C.

Thanks for the "tip".

With glow operations, we usually drop the pitch by one to get more hauling power rather than speed. So a 10 by 6 prop is swapped for a 10 by 5.
