I can get an old 4wd KYOSHO Optima MID for free but without any electronics.
Is it still possible to get parts for that car? Where?
My son son would use it to play around. Is it worth the trouble to set it up
with electronics?

Hi Denis,
I'm in the same boat. I found my old Optima Mid in the garage and it
needed some work. You can find some replacement parts at the hardware
store or online (e-clips, body pins, screws, swingshafts aka dogbones,
and other standard parts) at places like tower or ehobbies. For more
specialized parts you really have to hit ebay. It has worked for me -
my car is just about ready to run, though my upper deck is cracked and
I haven't been able to get my hands on a new one, I am just going to
lay it up with some epoxy and fiberglass tape - that should hold it
for a while anyhow.
I think it is a great car and I have a lot of great memories with it.
It will be fun to watch my son drive it around until he gets tired of
it.
Best of luck to you. If you have any specific questions feel free to
drop me an email.

It is definitely worth it. There are enough spares and 2nd hand Optima
Mids hitting ebay to keep it running for a few years yet. I'd suggest
that picking up a 2nd hand Mid for ~$50 would be a good way to get a
comprehensive set of spares. Be patient and you should be able to do
that without too much trouble. The hardest part to replace is generally
the bodyshell, but someone is currently selling replicas on ebay.
Fundamentally, the electrics haven't changed, i.e. todays gear will work
fine with it.
