This is my friend's plane. He's Funguy here on the zone. It's the 5th flight ever on this plane and his first ever water landing. We got permission from the park officials for this 7am flight. Enjoy.

Hmm.. maybe we don't need a separate water plane forum?

Boy watching the plane skip was cool. Do they all land like that?
PS I thinks he need flaps to slow the plane down, don't you ?

He thought he was having speed control problems so he rushed his landing. You can see he started his landing too high, then right before he touched down he pushed forward on the stick to touch the water. Glad it bounced! I edited out my accompanying expletive when it happened. :D Still, not bad for his first water landing.

What's the size of the Coot A?

Friend of mine worked with Molt Taylor, inventor of the Coot, for (7?) years...I got to ride in a boat on the Columbia one day, alongside a Coot, taking pix to check spray dispersal or something like that. (Been Years ago,,,details fade :)

I swear I have better landings on the street ;)

The plane is made by JR Models jr-models.cz
http://www.jr-models.cz/english/aera.html

Wingspan: 57 inches
Fuse Length: 38 inches
Battery: 8 NiMh 3000 Ultras
Motor: PHASOR 15/4
Prop: 8x6 APC pusher
Weight with battery: 3 pounds 10 ounces

It took an act of God/Luck to get the Ranger to allow me to use the lake. Might wake the fish. The kit quality is so-so missing a few parts in the box and wingtips are extremely thin plastic.
Bought the plane at the AMA show here in my area because I hate leaving empty handed with a pocket of cash.

Real nerve racking knowing that a single mistake can sink the plane and gear.

Yeah, been there, xxxx xxxx, got the t-shirt.

Lost an Astro 40 geared, and speed controller, in 40 feet of water. Now I tie Kevlar thread to expensive parts, tie the other end to the foam floats :)

Thanks for sharing the info - sounds like a fun size (for me).

Not that I need another project -

Fredrik W,

That is Da Plane.

I really wasn't ready for the BIG skip on the landing. Real nervous about losing my gear ...even brought some string so I could fetch it out of the water if it went upside down or lost power.

The wing tips are thin plastic with a very undercambered shape...maybe functionally designed to keep the wings up, don't know enough about it.

I realized that on the street I use rudder/steering and elevator to get off the ground. This plane requires rudder/steering, aileron to keep the wings level and elevator....took about 10 yards to figure it out.

It is more like a flying boat and not a sea plane like the Catalina, maybe that is why they didnn't use tip floats.

Sorry just found the forum!

Thats a great video. The landing was great for a RC plane, but those passengers to Fantasy Island would be having a weinie roast with you!

the coot may be cool, but it's no widgeon. BTW does anyone know where one could find an electric widgeon kit or arf

It is exactly like a Widgeon except it only has one motor, no wheels, no wing floats and is available. :D

Like my daughter says "Same thing only different"

I guess a PBY Cat is more like a Widgeon that a COOT-A

Good luck finding your plane

I already own one. My father-in-law has a real widgeon that I am priveledged to fly in around the wilds of Alaska in, so I must have one!
