Short notice, I apologise, but I just found the flyer this week at a local hobby shop.
August 16th and 17th, 2003
There are Model boat races being held at the PGE Trojan Facility this weekend(the local Nuclear power plant).
On Route 30, Rainier, Oregon
This is a first time event. All gas, All Nitro...
up to 75 mph boats will be running!
Event organizers are expecting 150 participants from Oregon Washington, and Montana. They also hope that a succesful weekend will lead to an annual regional race at this facility.

It's probably NAMBA sanctioned being up in the Northwest. No Nitrous Oxide allowed, I refuse to use that Fast and the Furious moronic word. You'll have to have a NAMBA membership more than likely to race. You'd better have a larger fuel tank in that boat so that you can make all of the laps.

Well the Trojan races occured last year. The pond that was used does not seem to be available this year. Your best info on Portland area hydro racing and other classes will come from "Hobbies Unlimited" at 4503 N Interstate Ave. I have heard that "Force Lake" is accessable for gas and nitro running. It is located behind the Expo Center. I am unclear on the access, but was told that you drive through the Expo center grounds and around the back somehow. The lake is off North Force Ave, between the Heron Lake Golf Course, and the Expo Center.
Most local racing information for Oregon and Washington can be found at

Its really to bad everybody now associates nitrous oxide injection with fast and the furious BS, it's really not the case. It's merely a shot of horse power at the push of a button. It's fine if I can't run the nitrous I'll gladly win without it.

Have you run the boat with NO2 in it yet? A bud of mine tried it with his 7.5 OB tunnel and spread engine parts all over the pond!

I have been running nitrous oxide in rc's for 4 years now with zero engine damage. By the way just fyi it's N2O not NO2

Well I am curious where you run, as there are so few places to run internal combustion engines in the Tri county area. Are you near Portland?
We have spent the last three years(if not 14) looking for ponds. It is very difficult to get permissioned access to most of them.

I am south in Albany, I have had no problems running in any of the local water. However there is not much for boating here :(

That is because most of the RC racing takes place in Springfield. You have a big racing pond to your South. You might try contacting Peter Gaskins. His e-mail address is "jpgaskins AT mindriser.com". He may be able to tell you when they run down there, if the NAMBA8.com web site does not list a schedule.
You should see if you can establish a local facility that will allow boat racing in your area. We have found it difficult to get permission from most property owners, or that the pond weeds up in the late season. Now is the best time to find clear water ponds.
We just found a set of ponds in Molalla, where the owner is promoting R/C hobbies.
It might not be till next year, but as long as proper insurance is taken care of, the ponds are open for activites. The property owner is even willing to create amenities at the site to support hobby activites. We are crossing are fingers, as this is the Northern most pond anyone has found to date, that will support gas and nitro racing near Portland.

There is a really decent pond just outside of town a couple of us get together every now and then and race. I don't see any reason we couldn't use that, it's also a help that I am good friends with the mayor here.

Now THAT is the kind of support that model boating needs. Build the mayor a boat, and contact Peter Gaskins, and arrange to discuss the possiblities of producing a "fine" model boating facility. Then contact me, and I will tell you want the scale and combat guys are looking for. ;)
Build a mayoral boat! :p

Actually I would just need to let the mayor know of my plans, he would likley ok it with very little question. He is a very neat guy and good friend of mine. I just need time now (I am the co founder of JAG RC)
