I guess. I'm seeing posts in the other forums concerning all manner of floatplanes, adding floats to my (fill in the blank), etc., but very little has appeared here. Maybe a sticky in Scale, Parkies, or OD is needed? A move to a more prominent position in the drop-down? -thumbs

You're right, thumbs, its stuck in the "other" catagory. I had never even looked at "other" until our forum got stuck there. There is a note in the poll (now closed) and somewhere else that dircts folks to the waterplane forum but I don't think many folks go there, either.
Of course, this is the result of the rules for new forums but I think the rules predispose new forums to failure if they are hard to find. I don't think anyone purposly tries to discourage new forums, just think the rules make it seem so.
I have been PMing (and have had a little success) those who post waterplane stuff elsewhere but I don't see them all and all I contact don't respond. In one recent case, however, I didn't contact the thread starter because there was good reason for the thread to be in the scale model forum. And that can be said of threads that end up in the Foamies forum and others.
I guess we'll just have to try to get the magic number of posts by the deadline to keep this forum open and then we can build from there. If we can get this forum on the front page, it will grow - and it is certainly more important to RCers than Humor or Off Topic Discussions if its a front page space issue.
Dick:)

Thumbs,
I just reviewed the new forum rules and it looks like we will get moved to the "aircraft - general" catagory if our posting rate is at least one per day (doesn't say if that is average one per day or at least one every day) over 30 days. Since we now have 61 posts, I think we will make it to the front page where most will see us.
Also, if the control line forum is any guide, it must be hard to get eliminated - that forum has had ony 21 total posts in over a year.

Thanks Dick, that satisfies my curiosity concerning the magic numbers. I'll keep an eye on the count though, just to be safe. I can ask a lot of questions:D . -thumbs

I thought I would post just to augment the numbers.

Just a thought but have you considered promoting the forum a little ? E.g. by posting invitations in Open Discussion (electric) and Airplane Talk (for non-electrics) etc.
If you ask the forum moderator(s) nicely they may even be willing to sticky such an invitation for a while (I'm pretty sure one would ;)). These things don't just happen by magic, someone has to make some sort of effort.
BTW I notice that plenty of the people who claimed in the poll thread that they wanted the forum haven't posted here yet. Have you tried contacting them ?

I only saw this listing as I was looking for the new webhosting forum. Volume is growing, though it's rather spotty. Two gets you one that there won't be as much traffic in January as July, unless the Aussies hold up their end. :)

ps: was leaving the [img] code off an oversight, or is it part of the probationary period?

If you see a NEW thread elsewhere that would be better off here, simply post a note suggesting the thread should have been posted here, and as the forum moderator to make the move.

Karl:
Floats work better than skis in deep powder snow. I intend to float fly this winter.
One trick - when you take the plane out of the car, do NOT put it on the snow until the floats have cooled down to ambient temp - otherwise the warmer floats stick to the snow and create 'sandpaper'

David,
Good advice! Now that you mention it, I recall the same thing from snowskiing: warm skis thrown onto cold snow make for slow going. :)

It does look like water planes is stuck down in the back closet-several days before I knew it existed, had been posting elsewhere for info but they are mostly gas floaters. Have emailed several members to post info and pictures here-there are still several still posting on parkflyers requesting float info. Hope we make the cut. Flip start

I found this forum a few weeks ago and would love to have it on the list with the others--I keep forgetting to go look for it.

Create a shortcut and paste it on your desktop in Windows. I have one for this forum and one for Aerial Photography. I check both first thing as I log on. They are right 'in my face'

Fred,
I think its time to move! As I read the regs, the only requirement was that we have at least one post per day for the first 30 days. Seems like we had that - IN SPADES!:D
See post from Brian (Aug 05, 2003) below:
"Welcome to the Waterplanes forum
Welcome to the new Waterplanes forum.
This forum has been created for the discussion of waterplanes of all types, including seaplanes, floatplanes and amphibians and their construction and flying.
The forum will remain in this Special Interest area for 30 days from the date of this post, on a trial basis to gauge the popularity of the forum. If the forum achieves the criteria set out in the procedure for the creation of a new forum then it will be made permanent and will reside in the General Aircraft section, visible to both the fuel and electric sections of RC Groups.
So come on then chaps, get your feet wet and get posting
Brian"
Time to move.
