I fly control line, but there is never any talk or response to questions so why post here? I post in the ECL forum every now and then. Thats only because it's the only forum on the net that i know talks about ECL. I mostly e-mail people about ECL that way i know they get it (because that forum is dead to)! If you want to talk CL try www.clstunt.com.

By the way you are in Lancaster? Do you fly in reading? I am from the Lansdale area and fly with the Philly Fliers.

Yeah Im just moving back to control line from RC
Seems I worked my way up as I got older and now Im getting back to the stuff I did as a kid. I say its a second childhood. Wife says I never finished my first :)
Im going to run up to the Reading club here in a couple weeks on a nice sunday.
Ive been wanting to get down your way to Penn Valley and pick up some CL kits but think Im going to call Bill first and make sure he has some in stock.
Hah Im also afraid of how light my wallet will get if I go down to see Bill hehehehe. I also do freeflight.

Hi Msaint

As Mike says there are a few of us but not enough to get a critical mass going. I'd love to see a bit more activity here but it's just so much simpler to use the busier forums (I like Stuka Stunt too and I'm not going to try to steal posters away from Leonard, even if I thought I could).

Of course the few of us being spread over a several continents doesn't help much either :(.

Oh forgot to mention I do most all 1/2a stuff and Im looking for a NIB LiL Satan Kit :)

Give Bill a call if you have a specific kit you are looking for, but i assure you he has CL kits in stock. If you are looking to move into a bigger airplane w/o the time investment you can try out the new topflight ARF Nobler or Flightstreak. Bill had a few Noblers but they sold out in the first week. Both kits are a steal. (I know the ARF Nobler sold for $95 or so and the streak was much less).

Me and a few other's from the Philly Fliers CL club meet at Penn Valley every Thursday night around 6:30. When Penn Valley closes we go hang out/B.S. and eat pizza. We used to fly CL or FF after we all met up but we haven't done that yet this year(mostly do to weather). If you ever want to come out to the field let me know. We are there just about every weekend. All you need to fly is an ama liscence. I guarantee you will have a blast.

The field is in the Neshaminy state park. Sorry:D It is very close to the intersection of Street Rd and State Rd. In the Northeast Philly Bensalem area. I would guess it is 1-1.5hrs from you. Might be a long drive.

Yuh bit of a drive but I may try to make it down sometime this fall.
Lets see if I can keep something in one piece long enough to have something to fly if i drive down.

Hey! Nice little forum ya got here. lol

Seriously though, what is the draw with control line flight? Other than not having to worry about losing your plane, that is. I mean, is it pure enjoyment, pure and simple? Or is there something I'm missing? Sincerely.

Part of the lure of Conrol-line flying is you can feel the plane. Every bump in the air, every little change in performance as the plane moves through the air. You don't half to go very far to pick up the pieces if you pile one in either.:D

Mikey, like Elwyn said it's the fact that you can feel what the plane is doing. Even as a beginner just flying round and round you'll feel the difference in how it's reacting either upwind or down. You in turn learn how YOU have to react to counteract or adjust to changing conditions. An RC model also reacts the same way but unless there's a gross difference (a sudden gust or huge thermal) you simply don't even see it let alone feel what's happening.

Going beyond the beginner stage into manoeuvres is a whole new ballgame and can really keep you on your toes. At all times you have to be aware of wind directions because you don't want to try doing loops upwind for instance. If you graduate to doing the full stunt pattern then consider this. Most stunters fly quite slowly at around 50mph even in a vertical dive. By my count there are 13 times in each pattern where you dive vertically towards the ground (including the last corner of a triangle or hourglass). If you pull out level reasonably correctly then you're about 1/10th of a second away from total destruction. A good pilot will put it closer to 1/20th of a second. So this happens 13 times in every flight :)

I've found myself laughing and yelling YEE HAAA just from the thrill of getting the model to do a reasonable pattern. I've never had the same enjoyment flying RC but I'm sure some of the RC flyers do. Most of them seem too serious though.

Another additional thing in C/L's favour is that you can get flying for very little money. An all-sheet trainer can be in the air for almost nothing and even if you crunch it you'll almost certainly save the engine which is the only relatively expensive bit. This makes it ideal for introducing kids to modelling. You can let them have a go without any worries.

For some reason it also just seems to be more pure FUN than R/C. New R/C fliers often just look relieved to have survived a flight. New C/L fliers almost always seem to sport BIG grins.

The real reason is its a shorter walk to pick up the parts! :)

This same topic has popped up on at least one other modelling board and the common thread seems to be just how much FUN CL is compared to RC. Unfortunately the dedicated RC flier just never gets to see comments like this because they don't go to CL areas such as this. Fair enough, I don't go to boat or car forums either and just maybe there's something I'm missing out on. I wonder if there's a way to sneak a subject like this into an RC area? :D
