Been mulling this over for a while. This is somewhere in the kit pile:

Yup, a GP Ryan STA-EP bashed into a Supermarine S6B. Okay, it's heavy already I know, and I'm adding glassed floats, struts, flying wires, fake heads, etc., but I think I can keep it around 4 1/2 lbs., which would give a wing loading of just under 26 ozs., so whad'ya think? Any suggestions are welcome. -thumbs

"Thumbs",
Just how much encouragement do you need? You've got the Kit, it looks like it won't require a lot of modification, and you can buy to floats if you want to.
You'll end up with a one of a kind, highly desireable model. Don't know why you said its heavy already unless its the nature of kit but you can certainly lighten it as you go. Construction to flight would be a great thread - maybe you could follow that with a Bluecor Foamie version.:D

Not much, actually:D , but it is a kit with heavy wood and it's not very consistent. Frankly, the darn kits are cheap enough to buy should I fail miserably on the first attempt, so I might just get started and post some power Q's when I get a better idea of the AUW. Pretty sure I'll need to scratch-build those floats for scale appearance & strength, but that's no biggie. Okay, stop brow-beating and pestering me, sheesh:p ! -thumbs

In the Sep '02 issue of RCM there is an article on installing floats on a Great Planes Ryan STA...I don't subscribe so I can't get access to it...:(.
If you can find that issue...or get access to the online article, it might be a good starting point. I remembered seeing it while browsing at the LHS, and then found it on the RCM site. I say "YOU CAN DO IT!!"

Thanks P-51, was that the 1.20 glow Ryan? This is the smaller EP version, but I'll check into it anyway. -thumbs

I believe it was the glow version. I just thought it might be a good reference point...they had drawings that would probably help.
+ it seemed like a good kick in the butt for you to get going on it...:D ;)

P-51- Thanks again for the vote of confidence and the nudge in my rudder:D .
Don Sims- I'll see what I can do, but I just got a touch-tone phone, so you can imagine how far behind I am camera-wise:p .
Frederik W- A kind offer, but I think I'll be okay without it. Much appreciated.
For all who think the S6B is as sexy as I do, have a gander at this, available from Sea Commander. I hope to end up with a smaller, cheaper, EP version:
