Spent the morning at the field today with Kraut flying our Spa3d's...I know this aint nothing for you guys who are good, but for me it's a really big deal...got into a solid hover at show center and a slight NE breeze took the wings slowly around...well, mister rookie here usually has a spaz attack at this point, powers up and bails. It must have been the right amount of caffene and tobacco or something...because I decided to ride out my first torque roll below mistake altitude. Everything was perfect from the way I was biting my tounge to tilting my transmitter to clinching every muscle below my belt. Man...by the time it was done, 4 perfectly exicuted rotations followed by a flyout that even looked like I meant to do it. Man...I almost celebrated my plane out of control, but using better judgment, I landed before I did the touchdown dance :D Man that was cool...never mind that I couldn't duplicate it for the rest of the morning... what the heck... I'm stoked...if I was a golfer, to me I just hit the hole in one that will keep me coming back for more:)

Awesome ! I always freak out also when low and the thing tries to TR on me. If you want to avoid this, just point the nose slightly into the wind. It won't TR at all. But it seems like you are enjoying it now :D .
BTW, flying out of a hover in Knife Edge always looks cool. :D

I did this yesterday from 5' AGL. I'm not telling if it was a K-E on purpose. I claimed it was and I'm sticking to that story!

P.S. It took about an hour to get my shorts out from between my butt cheeks afterward....

does the spa3d in the video have dual aileron servos? it looks like them in the middle of the wings and i can't see any in the profile. I'm thinking about using two hs 81s for aileron in the partially built spa3d laying on my floor

Installer's choice I reckon. I used two Futaba 3004's centered on the ailerons. I was worried about flex but that doesn't appear to be an issue. Great fun plane. Keep it at slow. Mine does wierd things when I go downhill with WOT.
Dave,

Nate,
On take-of do you give full throttle at once, or do you feed in throttle slowly? When spinning a large prop on a light frame, giving full throttle at once will allmost certainly give problems.
