Great new forum!

Here's a shot of my Minimax on antique-style floats. For some reason the aircraft screamed for this type of float. It's a great slow-flyer and easily lifts off in about 10 feet.

Another shot, this time in flight.

I have a movie of this uploading as I type to my site at rchomepages.

Thanks for posting! :)

How is the floats mounted in relation to the CG?
What is the bottoms angle of attack?

Fredrik,

The floats can be thought of as regular floats with everything behind the step removed. So, they are mounted as usual, with the step (which is now simply the trailing edge of the float) about 1/2" behind the CG.

The bottom surface angle of attack is 3 degrees.

The floats are flat-bottom and this surface is covered with packing tape so it is smoother than raw white foam.

Those floats worked for the Sopwith Tabloid so why not use 'em?
Good way to get water rudder too.

This artwork found at

Also, Fiddlers Green (www.fiddlersgreen.com) has a paper model that I have "blown up" to about 28" ws for future Foamie (maybe I should have put this on Dream Float Planes thread).

My movies are now uploaded at

http://gvillette.rchomepage.com

They are rather crude and not up to my current standards but they do show takeoff, cruising around, and landing.

Here (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=494701#post494701) are some detail photos of my floats from an earlier thread.

Dick,

Nice artwork you've found! I was looking at the FBA and noticed the wingtip floats. That's exactly the shape I used for the tail float.
