Shot these pictures in the mid to later part of July. My SS was on my home-made pair of floats, along with a water rudder. It was the second time I've flown off water, and it was a blast.

I´m about to make me my fist pair of floats this weekend and I whonder if you have a picture of the side of the floats? It whould help to see the floats outline.
Do you think it is necessary to ad a water rudder on such a small model?

My Slowstick on floats that are too short:

I wanted 25-26", and only had enough foam for 20", so I had to add a tail float. Cross section at the step is 2x2", tips are ~4" in front of the prop, and the stock SS gear is too narrow for good crosswind taxiing.

Fredrik,
Without a water rudder, I have about 35° of rudder throw each way, and was able to turn away from the wind with no problem.
Handling wasn't too much of a problem, but a bit more vertical fin area would help a bit in the air. Little rounded air fins on the tails of the floats would be neat.

PS: seems like [img] code is turned off...

Originally I had a water rudder on my SS but I found it turned fine without the water rudder. The only advandage I found with the water rudder is when the wind began to pick up. Without the water rudder it is difficult to overcome the tendency of the SS to weather vane. Having said that I still don't bother with the water rudder when it gets windy. I just try to land close to shore so I don't have to taxi far.
