View Full Version : Flat-bottom wing Slow Stick?

I was just wondering-

I have a Slow Stick with an EPS-400c and an E gear, turning an 11x8 RS prop, and it weighs 20 oz.

If I were put some saran-wrap or tape across the bottom of the wing, effectively making it a flat-bottom wing, what change in flight performance would I see?

Brian you would have to put some kind of ribs in the wing otherwise it doesnt have enough chord strength to be effective! I put foam ribs in a SS wing then covered it with econocote and added strip ailerons! The wing was still too flexible and it flew much faster and didn't have as good a glide so I removed the covering and gave up!

By covering the bottom of the wing, the airfoil mean camber will be aproximately halved. This will result in a shift of the usable speed range to higher speeds. The stalling speed and top speed will both be increased. The zero lift angle of attack of the airfoil will become less negative and the nose down pitching moment will be reduced. This will require less decalage for proper pitch trim.
