Got one in the box. I'd like to stick a 3W in it. Anyone out there with some experience?

cheers,
Tim

Tim, I'm not brave enough for a giant warbird yet. But there are a lot of guys in the club who are in them head over heals. One fella has a Yellow Aircraft P47. He bought it to replace a Ziroli P47 that was lost in an unfortunate dumb-thumb moment. The Yellow is a bit smaller than the Ziroli. He did say the YA built much faster than the scratch built. It appears to fly excellent and lands very slow and smooth.

I am interested as well. Expensive, but it looks worth it.

a buddy of mine is putting a YA Zero together, and equipping it with the Zenoah G-62. What an awesome bird this will be. The quality of these products look outstanding.

I have built the Yellow Spit, albeit with a Moki 1.8 rather than a large gas burner. Any of the gas burners in the 40-60 cc range will work great but something with a rear carb is necesarry unless you want a whole bunch of engine hanging out of the cowl. The smaller the better in this case. The kit is beautiful and goes together very rapidly. My only advice is to work dilligently to keep the tail as light as possible. I replaced all the heavy plywood in the tail feathers with much lighter material and added lots of lightening holes on top of that. I also replaced the fiberglass stab with a built up one but that was a matter of preference rather than weight. My glass stab was very light but the surface was rather wavy in appearance. It's a really nice kit with really nice accessories and definitely worth the asking price, IMHO. Good luck, Chad Veich.

Hi Tim,
Great plane, I am building a Clarke Industries 1/4 scale mkix at the moment. I have not built the ya spit but Evan quiros has and here is a link to three great pages with construction and finishing. He has a 3w 60 in his. I have seen another by Mark Shapiro with a 3w 70 in it but there was a bit of modification to the firewall. I think the 60 should be plenty though. Have you considered the ZDZ range, the ZDZ 50 or 60 would be great and both have rear carbs and are very compact.

Good to see you here Chad, another spitfire afficionado.
Good luck

Thanks Paul, I have been lurking around here for quite a while but usually in the electric scale forum. I have not done any electrics myself, yet, but there is a very inspiring group of guys in that forum! Hope this forum expands in the same fashion.

Tim, definitely check out Evan's site. I had the chance to meet Evan a few years back and, as well as being a fantastic modeler, he is a genuinely nice guy. You may check out this site also: www.vicrc.com. Vic Catalasan has documented the fitting of a 3W50 into his 83 inch Taylor Spitfire which may be of some use. Good luck with your Spit.

I've see Evan's build page before. He does remarkable work. I'd like to co-opt him into doing my exhaust stacks!

Evan is a very nice guy, I emailed him about his giant mustang and how he fitted the zdz40 into it. He entered into a very helpful email exchange with me and sent many helpful comments and photos too.
That is what makes the RC community as fun as it is.
Good Luck
Paul
