Hi, guys, last weekend I finally got to try the torcman outrunner I showed you at the field.
I had it installed in my Robbe Calibra ( 2m hotliner ), and made several flights with it, all very nice, the torcman on 10 cells, with a 14x10 would make the Calibra climb almost vertically !

Unfortunately, the Calibra did not survive, on the last flight, while pulling out of a dive, the wing folded and that was that...
Wing in 2 pieces, fuselage in 3, and the horizontal stab is a jigsaw puzzle... not repairable.
I suspect the wing had some previous damage, because the dive wasn't very steep & long, and I didn't pull all that hard.

I'll probably get a Nike from Esprit models as a replacement.

Anyway, I then decided to try the torcman in my Cumulus. It was atight fit, but I got it in there, and I am using it witht the same 8-cell packs I was using before, as well as the same prop.
It seems to have a little more power than the Kontronik drive 502, but what really amazed me, was the difference in noise !
Once Launched, after 50 feet or so, you can't hear the thing anymore !
Apparently, with the Kontronik geared motor, the gearbox is responsible for most of the noise.

Anyway, for all who are interested in these motors, here the link to torcman's english section : http://www.torcman.de/index_e.htm

I will be travelling to Germany in October, so if anybody wants me to bring something , let me know.

The English Torcman site is not finished yet. If you need more info on these motors, have a look at the site of the English distributor: www.maxrivers.com Good motor, prop, cell suggestions!

Ron, it might not be finished yet, but it already has a lot of info !

Anyway, after some initial problems assembling the motor , I was pleasantly surprised about how well they work, and they are considerably less expensive than a regular brushless with a gearbox.

The problems I had during assembly were my own fault, I messed up glueing in the magnets, and also had on of the windings in the opposite direction to the remaining ones.
Bur even so it was no great deal to fix these errors, and it ran fine after that.

Torcman's 'Know how' page in English:
http://www.torcman.de/peterslrk/index_eng.html

'Performance Data' and 'Practic Samples' are in German but anyone can read the numbers and diagrams. 'Events' also in German but has mainly lovely pictures.

The faq is in red, indicating it's only in availabe German, but it's in English :)

Groeten ;) Ron

Probably overpropped it. Better ask in the Electric Motor Design and Construction (../electric-motor-design-and-construction-361/) subforum, stating make, type, #statorpoles, #magnetpoles, statordimensions, winding diagram used, star or delta hookup, propsize ...

Motorwinding_101, must read:
www.gobrushless.com/kb
-> basic overview (1-5)

Tips and tricks, checks and tests, may save you from frying motor/controller:
