I just purchased an untouched 1/3 scale ASW 20 - appears to be of the 70's/80's vintage. The plane is complete with all parts and instructions and is in exceptional condition.

I am hoping someone has some experience with this plane and can share some building tips and how best to set this plane up. Built to spec, the plane will weigh-in at 15+ lbs using the steel pipe included with the kit (I am really hoping to trim off a few of these unecessary pounds).

I would enjoy hearing from anyone with ASW 20 experiences.

thanks -
dave

This is most likely, but not certain, a Mark Smith design, later transferred to Dreamcatcher hobbies for production.
15 pounds is light for a 1/3 scale ship. It will easily carry 20 plus pounds and fly better, and more scale like. Light is not always better in large scale. This concept is a carry over from Thermal duration ships that float around like maple leafs at 600 feet from a winch launch looking for lift. Large scale ships like an ASW-20 need speed to perform. They should be flown accordingly.
In any event don't obsess about the weight until you fly it, if you really want it lighter then you can try to find a carbon wing rod, but I don't think you will notice an improvement.
