Tried every thing in my time from the shank of a 3mm drill to stainless
steel pins. The bottom line is that once the hole in the shaft and the nylon
dog start to wear the bugger keeps breaking, regardless of what you put in
there. Replace the shaft and nylon dog and be done with it :o)

For about $8 get a new starter shaft set.

Get a drill bit it will last longer than buying another new shaft.
