Does anyone have experience with DSing that has also done it virtually in Slope soaring simulator? I have been playing around with DSing the phase6 model on the DS slope and am starting to get the hang of it. I want to know if there is a good correlation between this virtual DS experience and reality?

I have experience with both real life DS and sss... For me, it's much easier in reality. It may have to do with the fact that I've spent >50 hours flying at a good DS site vs. <2 hours trying in sss.

Here are some hints and a good model to use, most of which was provided by Steve aka surfimp.

1. Use the DS config for sss

2. Use the Weasel model

3. Inch your way to the backside edge by using <shift> <arrow>

4. Change the Physics parameters for Wind Scale and Gravity, try ~1.7 and ~13-18 respectively.

More clues here if you need help with anything related to sss:

A good recent thread too:

Hope that helps,

DSing in SSS is easier for me than DSing in real life, mainly because when my plane smacks into the ground at Warp Speed II in SSS, it doesn't cause any damage ;)

SSS is no substitute for real flying on either the frontside or the backside, but it is a lot better practice than Realflight or whatever for slope soaring specific skills. Practicing DSing in SSS will surely help you do it in real life, once you're ready to move to the darkside ;)

A couple more hints...

I mentioned the gravity setting in my previous post. I was way off, see the bold text above.

Try messing with the exponential settings, I use 1.8.

Try the new NCFM Moth model! Thanks Steve!!!
