Guys, just starting to search out the servos for my R50/ OS 50SX H combo. I
see that JR8231 / 8411s would do the job, maybe a NES8700G on the tail.
Presumably Futaba equivalents too. BUT...are they really necessary for me,
a club hack whos not been flying that long and is, in truth, still learning
aeros? I can fly and hover and nose in, sideways fly etc etc, but get me
inverted and whoaaa! So...do I need to spend that kind of cash on servos to
get reasonable performance and safety (i.e load bearing)?

Hi David,
8231's a prob a bit OTT for an R50. Think about DS811. They are a lot
cheaper and plenty good enough for the job.
The tail servo really depends on what gyro you prefer.. either the
8700G or Fut9253 are good choices... Even a DS811 is a fast servo and
reasonable for tail use... the JR8700s seem to be advertised more
with CSM gyros, I'm not sure if there is much of a reason for it
other than perhaps the SL560 may be optimised for a 8700 (? - dunno).
The fut 9253's go as a combo with GY401's and are great also.
If you're loaded and wanna spend as much on the gyro as the heli then
go for a GY601/ 9251 combo! .... crackin' gyro. bit expensive though
