View Full Version : Strange Flash 5 problem

I've had my Flash 5 for about a year and a half. It came with a problem from the factory which was repaired under warranty by replacing "THE MAIN BOARD" (notes from the repair ticket).

Anyway, I have been flying a Dandy Sport on Model Memory Slot #1 for a couple of weeks.

I go to fly the plane yesterday and when I turn it on the Speed Control (Astroflight 010 w/stock speed control) will not arm. I move the throttle stick to full and closed several times and it still will not arm.

I then begin to notice that the ELEVATOR is stuttering and moving along with the throttle stick.

Then when I move the right stick (Elevator) to full down the speed control arms and when I let up on the stick the motor starts running.

Somehow the Throttle and Elevator channel are "mixed".

Here is what I checked:

Servo and speed control inputs to receiver: Everything is AOK and in the same inputs I had been flying this plane for the last few weeks.

Speed control: Switched out with another BL speed control and the same thing happens, Put the receiver (HITEC 555) in another model on MEMORY #1 and the same thing happen with the other model.

THEN, I switch to any other model memory slot but #1 and everything works perfectly.

Has anyone had this type of problem with the FLASH5?? Could that Memory slot have gone bad??

Any input would be appreciated.

Harvey

I would reset the model memory. If you are still having problems then give us a call.

You may be operating the radio in mode 1. In mode 1 as I remember from the manual, you control the tail with the left hand (elevator and rudder) and you control ailerons and throttle with your right hand.

So your elevator (mode 2) is throttle (mode 1)

Look at your radio manual and change the settings.

Hope this helps.

Side question - are you running the motor direct drive or geared? Thanks, Ed

Thank you for the replies.

Mike: When you say "RESET" the model #1, I don't have the manual with me, will there be instructions to specifically RESET or do you mean simply to change the Main model mode to something else like ACRO/GLIDER and then back to ACRO?? Thanks in advance for your time, this is a real help.

JLSalas: Great suggestion! It never occurred to me that it could have been reset to MODE 1, which makes perfect since because all of a sudden the throttle wants to react to the RIGHT stick (Elevator Stick) and there is Elevator movement when I jiggle the left stick (Throttle). I'll definitely check that one this evening when I get home.

Anyway I'll be doing both of the above and will report back.

CaptainED: I am running the 010 geared at 4.43:1 using a GWS system.

Harvey

Here's the manual to make things easier.

Everything's great with the world again,

JLSALAS: You were correct. Somehow I had switched model #1 over to MODE 1.

Mike: Per your instructions I reset Model#1 and everything is working as it should.

I think I will actually take the time to read through the manual and maybe avoid these kinds of issues.

Thank you for your help,

Regards,
Harvey

That's great!! Everytime is great to hear that I am correct :D.

Seriously, I am very happy that I could help you.

Mode 1 is used by competitors to avoid interference between roll and elevator when they move the sticks. When you use the right stick in mode 2, if you move horizontally, it will move vertically a little amount.

Mode 2 is easy to use because you use only 1 hand to control the plane (aileron/elevator)

jlsalas...I had the same problem. I called Hitec and the kid there said he never heard of a prob like that. He told me I'd have to send it in.
I thought you had to dissassemble the TX to change from mode2 to mode1. I didn't read the book good enough
jl you sure saved my hash...Thankyou.
Harvey, thanks for havin' the problem so jl could fix it:
