I bought a set of 130" Aegea foam cores and 18" V tails cores from Las Horvath at Compu-FoamCore http://www.compufoamcore.com/ They are excellent!
The fuselage is a Pretty Mantis from Terry Luckenbach of PA.

I am looking for a complete list of instructions and materials list to
build a Mark Drela carbon capped spar. I have never seen this
type of spar construction and would really like some help.
Would anyone have a spar set for sell?
I would also like to know what are some of the various lay-ups
that are being used on this wing.
This is what I have available at this time and I am hoping that
some of these material will be suitable for this model.
3 oz fiberglass
2.9 oz carbon fiber unidirectional
1.8 oz kevlar

I want to thank all who take the time to respond!!!
Any help would be very much appreciated!

The only documentation are the Aegea plans at the Allegro-Lite yahoogroup, in the Files section.

The only "instructions" on building the spar are here:
http://www.charlesriverrc.org/articles/allegro2m/spar_build.pdf
http://www.charlesriverrc.org/articles/construction/markdrela_webcutting.pdf

Info on incorporating rectangular joiners is here:
http://www.charlesriverrc.org/articles/allegro2m/joiner_build.pdf
although I'd use the rod joiners that are on the plans.

Almost all the Aegea wings built to date have used Phil Barnes's skin/tube layup system rather than the prefabbed spar. The skin/tube structure is less strong and less durable, but much faster to build. Something to consider. The layup specs were discussed in the SALglider group.
Do a search there.

I bagged two wings and tails using the Phil Barnes technique.

I am finishing up my two Manti with the Aegea wing. I am using the Phil Barnes skin/tube lay-up.

looking forward to flying them.

I ordered an Aegea 130" wing from Phil. I have a spare Mantis 3m fuse and tail that I thought I would try it on. The tail volume will be about 8% less than with the Mantis 3m wing. The stock Mantis flies like it has plenty of tail. I hope this won't be a problem. If so I can get a new set of tails. I am flying a Mantis 3m with a MH32 wing. It is the best plane I have flown so far.

Hi Randy,

I sent you an e-mail this morning with a list of the Links etc. that you should need, if you need more info. please let me know.

IMO it is worth the extra time and effort to build the carbon capped spar when building the 130" Aegea wing (or any other wing for that matter) , you will end up with a SOTA bagged wing and spar system that will take just about anything that you throw at it.

For excellent picture instructions on building a carbon spar, see the CST home page
https://www.cstsales.com/home.htm
The CST page shows shear webs made of Rohacell, but you can also make them out of end-grain balsa; see
http://www.mvsaclub.com/articles/dark_star2.htm

Dr. Drela,

Is there an optimal wing loading recommended for the Aegea 130" planform?

There's no recommended wing loading. It depends on the conditions, and to a smaller extent on personal preference. On a very weak and calm day, a 5 oz/ft^2 loading (37 oz AUW) would be very effective -- the airfoils would still work OK. But that's not reachable with adequate strength and stiffness.

Rather than shoot for a target weight, I normally shoot for a target stiffness and strength, and build as light as possible/practical within this requirement. Then ballast as needed for wind.

Was able to receive my 130" Aegea cores cut by Horvath from Tony D today, along with a set of kevlar V-tails free of charge (thanks Tony D!).
Gonna go with the prefab spar as well.
rgteel, would be interested to follow alongside your construction, and would also love to hear other's experiences/layups/etc. Bill, nice Mantii btw!

Godspeed and see you on the flipside,
Ray

Les,

Are you producing a vertical tail for the pretty Mantis? If so, like to see some pictures.
