OK - here's my venture over to the 'wet side' :)

I have a Hacker B20-12L that is simply begging for a home. I have read a bit about this in some of the micro hydros. Any ideas where in the States, I could get the running gear and a boat? The LHS has one small vacuum formed hydro - it is intended for small glow power. But at almost 90 bucks for the hull only, I am shying away from that source.

Additionally - has anyone run one of the Jeti brushless ESC's with this motor in a hydro (I have on an airplane)? I can tell a definate increase in RPM with a swap from Kontronik to Jeti.

Thanks in advance!

Steve

Hi Stevem

If you are interested in building a hydro hull, I have a design that was specifically developed for SP480 and Hacker B20L brushless motors. The plans will be published on www.rumrunnerracing.com sometime in very early November and will be free for the downloading. The design is called the HydroMite. To view pictures of the boat :

Steve

I forgot to mention that I have heard that the Jeti speed controls (for sensorless motors) have built-in software for a large timing advance. They are specifically suited for the Jeti (made by Mega) Phasor series of motors which are hi torque relatively low RPM motors (low k(v)). The Hacker motor is a very high Rpm motor and using this SC will cause the motor to run extremely hot! The best speed controls for the Hacker are Kontronic and Schulze.
There is very little hardware available on the market that is sized for the micro hydro. I have always built my own hardware (using a few items available from Octura). There will be instructions and specs included on the plans for doing this.

Hi Steve,

That 12L is a monster as you already know. Doug's boat plans should be a good bet for it. The 15L and 18L should also work VERY well in these boats. Hopefully the plans will be available from my site as well ;)

My Hacker 12L powered hull is actually a scaled down a 28" boat that got massaged in a few areas to come up with my 18" hull, the "Micro Sport". It literally screams on 7 1300SCR's. Speeds in the high 30's and runtimes of 2.5 minutes. PURE FUN.

The 20 -12L is hot it needs a controller able to handle amps - Kontronik Smile 40A controllers are very smooth and a great value for this motor.
