I am obviously behind the times, but what happened to Phil's, and what's left in town?

Ted I don't know about Phil's.

What's left in town, as far as I know, are Starfleet Hobbies, they just moved to a new location, on SR42, at Dimmick plaza, if you take SR42 north from 275, you will find it on the R/H side, just after crossing Dimmick.

The other one is Hobbytown USA, in the shopping center at Fields-Ertel, east of Mason-Montgomery.

Phil's has been out of business for about 6-7 months I think. It's hard to make a living from just selling RC. Mike mentioned the two stores closest to you. Two other stores in the Dayton area with a good selection of electric kits, motors, and accessories are:

RC Hobby center - 2047 Harshman Road -just north of the AF museum. good selection of kits and park flyers, decent wood selection

The Hobby Shop - by Comp USA near the Dayton Mall - good selection of park flyers, accessories, and some Hobby-Lobby type imported kits and arfs, fair wood selection.

There is also a Milford hobby store, it's in "downtown" Milford. I forgot it's name. He has a pretty good selection and his prices are fair. I did not know Starfleet moved, the store started to look kind a empty, but they did not indicate a planned move. I will have to check out the new store.

Hobbytown USA is OK and it's close to my house.

I spoke with Phil at the Hawk's field over the weekend. He's now a saleman at a local truck dealer.

Do you mean Phil's in Defiance, Ohio? Theyre still there on clinton street, and open... And Phil isnt a truck salesman, unless you mean rc trucks he's still in the hobby biz, and still flying gliders. Just thought I'd let you know

There is also a new shop on Mosteller Rod called World of Hobbies and Games. They have an indoor track for Cars and a gaming area. Their Airplane selection seems to grow on a weekly basis. They will meet or beat any LHS or internet price.

World of Hobbies on Mosteller Road (Micro Center building) has greatly expanded
their R/C Airplane Stock & has better prices than Hobby Express. I have been getting more stuff there, they especially have great prices on Eflite Blade Helicopter parts.

I belong to CSF (Cincinnati Silent Flyers), we fly at the Old St. Francis field on Mill
Road. We are going to start having our winter club meetings at World Of Hobbies starting next month if anybody is interested in joining. We are talking to the owner about the possibility of have some indoor flying sessions over the Race Car track, it's kinda small but would work for like Pico Stick/IPS size planes.

Mike,
Definitely interested if this materializes. Let me know and we can get enough people involved to make it worth while.

The Hobby Shop on Rt 741 near the Dayton Mall is sponsoring an indoor flying session at the South Metro Ice/Inline Rink on Sunday 20 Nov from 10am to 1pm. $10 per pilot, electrics under 1 lb. The rink is off of Austin Rd just north of the Dayton Wright Brothers Airport.

Hi Don,

Any plans for flying at Wall to Wall this year?

Marcel.

Hi Marcel,
I think I answered your question via email, but if anyone else is interested, I haven't been in contact with Wall2Wall this year. If there seems to be enough interest, I might call them around or after the holidays.

Don B. and I went to the Indoor Fly-In at the South Metro Skating Facility this morning. It's located near the Wright Brother's airport betweem Centerville and Springboro, which is about a 20 minute drive from West Chester. Compared to the Wall2Wall field (the small one), this venue is a little larger in size and several pilots were flying Shock-Flyer sized planes. I think that 25 pilots registered, and planes ranged from Slow-Sticks to 3D and even one small pusher jet.. The surface is hard smooth tiles similar to linoleum, so it's good for ROG planes.

This fly-in was sponsored by the "Hobby-Shop", located near the Dayton Mall. They are planning on having these at least once and possibly twice a month throughout the Winter. Cost was very reasonable @ $10.00, especially considering the hours were 10AM-1PM. The next event is tentatively scheduled for Sun, 12/11. You can call the Hobby Shop @ 937-436-6161 for info closer to that time.

If this does become a regular event as planned, I'll probably not try to arrange for any times at Wall2Wall this year.
