View Full Version : CSM 400 gyro opinions?

Just wondering if there are any problems with these gyros?
I'm currently using a mechanical gyro and am looking to upgrade. My flying
skills are to the stage of general flying around but not quite to the stage
of 3D.
Any opinions on these gyros?
Thanks
Eddie

They seem good to me. Just the same as a CSM540 except that you can't use
the PC Interface to reprogram them (and most people never do that anyway).
I have three CSM gyros in different machines - the 360, 540 and 400. Apart
from a slight early problem with the 360 (they swapped it for a new one free
of charge), I've been pleased with all three. I also have some other
gyros, including a much more expensive JR unit, but for all normal flying,
including 3D, the CSM is just as good.

Bob Johnson uses them, though not exclusively. When you watch the sort of
stuff he does, it leaves you with no doubts about the capability of the
gyro.

Martin.

go for the csm 420 if you are buying one , it has a new type sensor /new
functions and is excellent.

No doubt you'll get MANY opinions, and all of them different, but seeing as
how CSM were the inventors of the HH gyro and the 400 is a relatively new
addition to their range, would it be crap? No. I use 360's, 540's and a new
SL 560 and so far, I've yet to find a gyro that I feel more comfortable with
than a CSM.

Everyone I fly with uses either the 400 or the 540 (apart from one guy) and
only one of them has ANY idea how to make any changes to "improve things" so
they don't, they simply fit the gyro, get me to set 'em up and then they
just fly. Not one of them has ever reported back that they're having any
kind of problem either, and all subsequent gyro purchases have also been
CSM's.

Like their ad says "CSM know a good trend when they start one"

That's an excellent idea. I'd forgotten about that one :-)
