I flew my wattage Camel twice today. Once early when it was about 70 degrees at 6:00 this morning and again about 10:45 when it was in the ninties on the way to 103 predicted. I got up to about 400 feet and saw I was going up very fast in what should have been level flight. I turned off the motor and continued to climb just flying back and forth across the sky. Thermal must have been a couple blocks big and I could feel the air being sucked into it for a couple of minutes. The Camel fortunately has one of my JR micro receivers as I am sure I climbed out of range for a GWS receiver. I was forced to start looping and going inverted flight out of fear I would loose sight of this little electric park flyer.
I have always considered my Hummel to be a better glider then some of my small gliders but I refuse to call the Camel a glider. But thermal it did for about 15 minutes. When the thermal drifted to the west (I think) The Camel just slowly glided down to the ground. It was a great thermal ride for any plane but for a biplane it was unreal. Had to share it with some fellow fliers who would appreciate the thermal I had. Mike
