for those subs that need "high" pressure pumps to fill ballast tanks under pressure...how much pressure can they produce in psi?

petn7,
I'm using a Greylor PQ-12DC pump for my ballast pump. It can pump 1,300 milliliters into a sealed tank at 25 psi in about 45 seconds. :)

Wyatt,
Where did you purchase the pump and how much did it cost? What are the dimensions?
Thanks

CarreraGTSCS,
Here's the website - Scroll down to Minature Gear Pumps and it's Model # Model PQ-DC. Current price is $44.84...

Hey Wyatt:
Have you tried Greylor pump with a 7.2 volt battery? If so, how did it work?
Thanks - Jim

Petn7:
I bought a sealed electric fuel pump from Hobby Lobby. I don't know how many psi it will produce, but it will quickly fill a 20oz soft drink bottle all the way up. I used a 7.2 volt battery. I've siliconed all the opening to see if it will work in a wet environment.

CarreraGTSCS,
The approx. dimensions are: L=5", W=2.5", H=2.5"...
Jim1221160,
No - I've only tried 12V. Remember that I'm pumping into a sealed ballast tank, compressing the air inside. 25 psi seems to do the trick...
Thanks,

Wyatt,
Is the electric motor of the pump electronically "quiet"? Have you noted any radio interference when the pump operates? 1300ml in 45 seconds is pretty impressive. That's about 2 1/2 pounds of water. How large is your tank? Interesting approach.

By the way, that's a pretty cool sub in your pics. Aluminum no less!

CarreraGTSCS,
I'm still confirguring the final electronics for my Nautilus, and I fried my 2 speed controllers (for the ballast pump and drive motor). So... When I replace the speed controllers, I'll have to see how "quiet" it is. I did install the capacitor already on the Greylor pump and unit tested it, but still haven't tested it while running the other electronics too...
And Thanks for the comment about the aluminum construction! I still haven't decided if I'll even paint it! Maybe I'll run a "silver" Nautilus! Using the sheet aluminum has saved space, but require some bracing to stiffen up the frame...

CarreraGTSCS,
Also, my ballast tank is about 11" long by 4" diameter - it just fits in the middle of the Nautilus between the salon windows (which I've installed since the pics were taken...).
I was impressed by the performance of the Greylor pump - The geared-style pumps can really push the water in!
