Hi,

I am trying to get into RC boats. I have a friend who has done alot with RC
planes and they are helping me. I only have a limited budget so I would
rather build than buy. Problem is I cannot find any plans for building a RC
speedboat. Anybody aware of any that I can use to help get me started.

Thanks,

D.

There are some for small (400 type) motors on http://www.microhydros.com and some others on http://www.intlwaters.com/ If you're going for electric, you can substitute lighter wood than you would need for glow.

there are quite a few on ebay (kits and plans). also you might want to check the rcboatmodeller.com site ( http://www.rcstore.com/rs/general/listproducts.asp?catid=27&catego=PL ) as they sell plans there too.

additional info available on Rum Runners forum ( http://www.rumrunnerracing.com/feforums/ )

If you are in the uk try Http://www.traplet.com
they have some nice plans and if you are outside the uk you can still order
from them i think they also have some links to overseas plans services
Good luck in finding what you want

Hi Jim,

Something simple to start with :)

Seriously though - I am looking for a speedboat design or something along
those lines.

I am only a beginner so it needs to be something simple to control which is
why I though a speedboat would be a better option.

Thanks,

D.

You could try a Scamp from Nexus publications, plans are still available for
under a tenner and the boat is quick and easy to build, uses a 540 Motor,
have a look at the pics of mine on
alt.binaries.pictures.radio.control.models

Hi to everybody who replied,

Firstly my thanks for the replies, I am currently going through the web site
looking at the details.

I hate to ask this, but does anybody know of an Australian site where I can
access these types of plans - or even if there is a basic plan available to
download somewhere that will get me started. I am unable to purchase from
overseas sites at the moment :(

Also, what magazines should I be looking at to give me the best hints for
designing, building and racing these boats?

Thanks,

D.

No sites in Oz that I know of, but which capital city are you in or
nearest to?

There are some very good clubs in Oz, but they don't have much of a web
presence.

I won't presume to advise on power boats, but I feel that Marine
Modelling International is the best balanced of the magazines. Of
course, it's British, so it costs about a million Pacific Pesos a copy,
but then, so do the others!

Cheers,
Gary B-)

Thanks Gary,

I am about 4 hours away from a capital city which is why I am trying to find
details through the web. Will check to see if I can find that magazine (and
see what price it is).

Here's some links, pretty much the RC section of my bookmarks, but
leaning heavily to sail... Hopefully someone in Oz who is into power
will see this and add something...

In Melbourne, http://www.floataboat.com.au/ in Camberwell are pretty
bloody good. In fact, give them a call and they'll talk your ear off if
you let them. They are directed more to scale and sail, but if they
don't know who you should call, no-one does! (I've just had a squizz at
their plans catalogue, there are three powerboat plans.)

http://www.radiosailing.org.au/ Try off their "Links" page.

Wow, thanks Gary,

Got some serious checking to do now. I have had a look at FloatABoat and
seen the designs. They don't look too bad, are at a fairly good price as
well and look easy enough for a total beginner like me.

Thanks again,

D.
