View Full Version : Removing engine bearings

All,
I have a Tor 12 that I am replacing the crankcase. I heated the crankcase
up in the oven to and tapped it with a wooden spoon to get the bearings out.
I got the rear bearing but I cannot get the front one to come out. Any
suggestions? Would a torch work better or is there a safe way to pry it
loose? I soaked it in denatured alcohol overnight to try to disolve some
fuel residue but still no luck.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Just put the oven at 350 and chuck the case in there. It will only stay hot
enough to pop a bearing out for a very short time. Remember these things
are designed to disipate heat. I use long nose pliers to reach in and grip
from the inside to remove my bearings.

I had to disassemble as much of the bearing as possible so I could grab
onto it with needle nose plyers, then heat-up the motor block. Try to
remove the bearing as soon as possible when you remove it from the heat
source.
