I have read a little about DSing, but haven't yet had the chance to try it properly. I don't have access to a slope all that often, so I was wanting to do a bit of DSing off trees etc. How can I go about doing this, what plane/conditions do I need to be able to start??
Thanks

Steve

Here's a link to a German site that has some video of guys DS'ing a tree line. Check out the links near the top of the page...

http://studweb.studserv.uni-stuttgart.de/studweb/users/lrt/lrt28575/DS.htmThose three videos are definitely worth a look. I wouldn't think such a thing was possible!

Here are the direct links:

Hi Steve,

here's another one: DSíng trees (http://www.bolamoba.de/Video/Start%20Flug%20Landung.wmv)

On the bottom of Bodo Landeck Modellbau (http://www.bolamoba.de/Produkte/DSDII.htm) there are some more small movies, although none as good as this first link.

Want to try it myself, still haven't been searching for the right location in my neighbourhood, got the bungee and 48" Bluto ready though :D

Greetings from Holland,

Bob

Sweet, now I know what I am aiming to do. At the moment I have a Canterbury sailplanes P51, would I be able to DS with this?? I think that it is a little heavy and doesn't have enough elevator authority, however I will be playing with the CG when I get a chance. I am also looking at getting an XR from combat wings, would this be a better idea??
I have a couple of parks nearby that seem to fit the bill.

I'd bet the XR would do a better job. Get the CG back as far as you can stand to reduce drag, reduce your control throws, tape about 5-8 oz of lead to the top, a bungie hook to the bottom and go for it.

The one tree line DS spot I have tried seemed to have a much wider boundary than most. This means it doesn't have as much power. 15mph had a big mouldie going well but the 60inch stuff just wouldn't go for more than a few circuits.

flyonline,

You can Ds just about anything. Some planes will just do it a lot better than others.

I DS a Canterbury Sailplanes F20 at a couple of local Ds sites.

On a good windy day I load it up with lead and let it rip.

Any old foamie is ideal for learning to DS with.

Cut your teeth on a foamie and then your expensive planes will last longer.

DS will chance your life, and your bank account balance.
