Source for small quantities of SMT components

I am going to attempt to prototype a tlemetry system based on some designs that already exist on the internet. As a result I need to purchase some small ~20ea of a number of SMT components (resistors 1%, caps, diodes etc.). Ideally an assortment 'starter set' of components would be ideal, however the only place that I could find only had 5% tol resistors. I need an alternative to spending $100 for a resistor set + $100 for capacitors etc. etc.

Yup, Digi-Key is the place. Mouser is good too. However, skip buying a starter set (engineering kit). They are costly and you'll find that 90% of the values are not needed.
