My self training continues apace, circuits, hovers, mock autos etc etc, all
coming on well ith my old Nexus 30 / MDS38/ old futaba mehanical gyro set
up. However, I find I am running out of yaw authority very quickly...on
some flights I have barely enough to do a 180 clockwise. I appreciate this
against torque, but what can I do to get more "rudder" authority? I DO have
full tail pitch slider movement.

Maybe I can't get more with a Nexus, but can some one tell me the answer?

I do know I am rapidly growing to want a much more agile heli!

I am thinking of putting a Huey fuz on the Nexus when it is retired though -
is there a 30 class scale fuz available? I cant find one, only a 60 size
from Briggs place.

Its the old mechanical gyro thats your problem. Overdrive the pitch 10 to 20
percent on the ground. You will then have 100 percent in the air. Basically
what is happening is that as you input a yaw command and the tail starts to
swing round, the gyro senses this swing and tries to slow it down, hence the
need to overdrive.

Depending on your radio it is also possible to reduce gyro gain as more
rudder is input, used to be called pilot authority, probably still is.

Alternatively get a modern piezo gyro.
The CSM 360, 400 and 540 have various problems so I would avoid those. The
CSM 200 is just pants anyway so avoid that. The Futaba 401 is an excellent
gyro. The Futaba 240 is just a bit pants too but does work moderatly OK.
