I don't know what's wrong with the engine.
I played with the needle and it seems ok.
But when I hover, it's not constant, it tends to rev up and down
slowly,
and although I push the throttle all the way up, sometimes it doesn't
even lift up.

Second problem is that a couple of times I ruined the main gear.It
seems that it doesn't grip always good.Any adjustments?

It is not always the case that it doesn't lift up because of the
gear.It's a power problem.

Any insight ?

What heli?
What engine?
What fuel?

Is there a shed load of smoke coming from the exhaust?

Is the engine hot after a run, how long can you hold your finger on the back
crank case for immediately after you land it?

Similar thing happened to me last night. Finally found that four of the head
screws on my OS 32 were loose. Tightened them up and everything back to
normal. Took 45 minutes of f*cking around with everything else though
before I finally stumbled on the real problem.

the smoke level is ok, I adjusted the needle but I haven't checked the engine heat.

Great Mario, the engines a 30, what one???

Have you tried the pinch test on the fuel line?

Get the engine running and warmed up, then with the engine at idle pinch the
fuel line to stop it. The engine should idle for a few seconds more then
speed up for 3 - 5 seconds and then die. This demonstrates that the idle
mixture is rich enough.

The type of engine is important as different ones have different quirks when
it comes to setting up.

As for the main gear stripping. There is supplied with the kit a shim
washer. This is fitted under the main gear if there is any slack in the
setup. This will help you adjust the mesh of the main gear to tail rotor
drive. If the mesh problem is the engine output shaft then you have to
adjust the angle/position of this to the main gear to get the mesh correct.
It details this in the instructions. It sounds like you need to review your
build technique and get it all lined up correctly. Failing that, have you
got a local club where you can get some help?

Phil Martin.
