E-zoners get a look before our web site is updated...

UPDATE June 4: The Hook pages are now up at http://shredair.com/hook.html --Dieter

"The Hook" is a warmliner for 8 and 10 cell applications. This plane flies beautifully on just 8 cells, climbs briskly at a 60-degree angle, thermals well, picks up speed easily when asked, and rolls and loops well with good energy retention.

The plane provides intermediate pilots a head start on their way to hotliners and F5B planes. That's why we call it The Hook: we provide a foundation from which it will be easier to move on to the next level.
The Hook does not "pierce" or "bite" you; it does not torque-roll or snap-roll. It has very docile stall behavior; I have circled it with full up-elevator. I have flown five consecutive loops by just diving it moderately and applying full up-elevator.

This 2-meter glider is controlled by ailerons and elevator. It's a high-quality, solid-performing, well-mannered hotliner-type plane for a reasonable price: $595 includes the plane, a Lehner Brushless motor and controller with Reisenauer gearbox, RFM Carbon propeller, and a Light Spinner.

The Hook has a white fiberglass fuselage with canopy; 2-piece foam-core wings with carbon-capped spar, sheeted with fiberglass and obeche; SD7037 airfoil. The wings and stab come covered white on top and red or blue on the bottom.

The plane is available separately for $225, but we're also offering it "pre-baited:"
A Lehner Basic-3100 motor with Reisenauer Micro-Edition 5:1 planetary gearbox, BK/Lehner Warrior 4018/3 controller, Norbert Meyer Light-Spinner, and RFM 15.5x10 prop for 8 cells or 14x10 for 10 cells. This complete package costs $595.

The Hook will be available July 1st. We will have the web page up by then, including a detailed on-line assembly manual. We also hope to have available matching accessory packages such as batteries and servos.

For more info and ordering, please e-mail directly: dieter@shredair.com

We have carefully selected these quality products and combined them into a performance trainer. This plane provides intermediate pilots with a solid platform to further their skills in aerobatics, speed, and thermaling. Experienced pilots will enjoy its crisp yet relaxed demeanor and easy go-anywhere size.

Hankstone; if you do NOT buy this plane, I will find where you live and throw rocks at your house!..... Brilliant idea Dieter!... We talked and YOU listened.. Better have more than a handful in stock, I would think they will sell extremely fast.

Just returned from more test flights: we'll change prop recommendations for bigger ones; it'll all be worked out by July 1. The Hook will be available for test flights at this Sunday's F5B practice in Salem, Oregon, and at Lenny Keer's F5B symposium in Denver, June 7-8.

Hank, thanks for your patience; you are leading the list of Hook customers...

When you say 8 and 10 cell use, what size cells?
Would 10xsubC (e.g. 10x2400, 10x2600) end-to-end work?

Oh, and will there be one being demo-ed at the Mid-Am fly-in this year?

Yes, 2600s are what we'll recommend/offer. If you really want to save weight, CP1700 will work also.
What/where/when is the Mid-Am?

Thanks for the info on the plane.

Mid-Am is the Mid-America Electric Fly-in held in Plymouth, Michigan.
It's the weekend of July 12 this year.

no he isn't.. he's merely getting a taste.. It's like addictive drugs.. he'll move on to harder stuff.. that's the plan... Dieter will give him his first fix at a discount.. then he puts the claws in hard with the S11 and 24-27 cell drive..... It's all very evil,, childrens education funds will be raided, mortgage payments will be late, the yelling and fighting at night in front of the kids,, very vicious cycle... He should be stopped.

Spoken like the addicts you are..........have you considered a 12 step program yet? :D

No. I don't believe in the 12 steps... How could I possibly contact EVERY zagi owner in the world and make ammends to them?

Yes, I think it's true... I'm hooked and I haven't even flown one yet! Now, do I have the strength to hold out on flying that Filip E until after I get the Hook (cool name, and I think appropriate)... What do you guys think? I'm thinking I'll go ahead and fly the Filip, I might blow a gasket if I keep holding it all in... Should receive the Filip tomorrow and the power system in a few days...
Ever notice how life is one choice after another?

Hey I have to agree with everyone. This is a great idea and platform. For $600.00 you get a ready to fly plane that you just have to add your radio and battery pack.

Great job Dieter!!

PS: How about a S12 with a Pletty system for $800.00. HuH. :D

Oh well, I really shouldn't complain.

Nice plane and deal Dieter, good luck with it! Tic, just apologise by buying your own Zagi and putting "I'm sorry" on it then fly for three weeks continously.
Just trying to help you...

A slope'n buddy once asked the rethoric question: What's 100,000 Zagis at the bottom of the sea? -- His answer: A good start...

Let me clarify again what The Hook is:
It is a "nice" 2-meter plane with a proven planform and a docile airfoil. It is, in my opinion, ideal for pilots who want to see if the quickness of hotliners is for them. The Hook will let them find that out by providing consistent performance.
I will test in it more powerful systems in the 8-10-cell range, but for now we will stick with what we have; it gets small plenty fast enough as is.

You may be getting yourself into trouble, Dieter...

A local purveyor of adult toys recently experienced a devastating fire in his store. Rumor has it the fire was started by the wife of a regular customer. It seems she was upset by the possibility that her husband was having more fun with his new toys than with her.

With this new "toy" that will surely lead many unsuspecting pilots down the slippery slope to speed addiction, I hope your fire insurance is up to date. :D

Folks, we may finally have that Bandit-killer we've been waiting for. Dieter, if there's a chance of getting a wing with a somewhat slipperier airfoil, I might just have to order two of 'em.

Allan,
I am of the opinion that the performance of The Hook should first be verified by the Sailplane Moderator before ANY are sold. ;)

But, I was going to suggest he send me one so I can show it off at the Mid-Am fly in. If he gives one to you guys for a review, he won't have any to give me.
