View Full Version : Looking for new Heli
Ben Zickel
May 25, 2003, 04:02 AM
I'm looking for a heli to replace my Shuttle ZXX / OS 32 Ring combo because
it's somewhat underpowered for aerobatics.
I'm thinking going to a 50-60 class machine in the 600$US kit price range.
So the first thing I'm looking for is more power to weight ratio.
Here a list of power to weight ratios with OS engines:
Shuttle ZXX + OS 32 SX-H: 1.15BHP/2.4Kg = 0.48
Sceadu 50 + OS 50 SX-H: 1.8BHP/3.3Kg = 0.55
Ornith 46 + OS 46 FX-H: 1.62BHP/3.4Kg = 0.48
Freya 60 + OS 61 SX-H: 2.2BHP/4.9Kg = 0.45
Fury + OS 61 SX-H: 2.2BHP/4.2Kg = 0.52
Kyosho Concept + OS 46 FX-H: 1.62BHP/3.085Kg = 0.53
Raptor 60 + OS 61 SX-H: 2.2BHP/4.015Kg = 0.55
The Sceadu seems like the most powerful combo with an OS engine.
Are there any better Heli/Engine combos around?
Can the Sceadu 50 be fitted with a 60 engine?
Thx,
Ben

Get a Webra Speed 35. £80ish and it with transform the Shuttle. A little
bit of modding the fan shroud is required but it will be well worth it.

Ben, not sure on yer maths here. The Sceadu and the Raptor 60 have the same
power:weight ratio. If it,s the P:W ratio that matters, and it probably is,
then buy the cheaper of the two. If its just power then the Freyer or the
Raptor. Oops, there's that Raptor again.
If you just want grunt then the mags seem to be promoting a lot of Turbines!

Get a Raptor 60 and shove a Rossi 60 in it. Starting point for the Rossi is
2.9bhp

'rossi motor -nova' and still came up with nothing!
They should submit their website to some search engines!

I don't believe it! If you search for just 'rossi', it comes up. but
anything else like Rossi Motor brings up bollocks.

How about the Raptor 50 V2.
It has most of the specs for a 30-size, but fitted with a 50 engine.
People says it act like a 30-size on stereoids.
The price, 380 USD at www.cyberheli.com

It IS a 30 on 'roids :-)

At that kind of money, it's a better bet than a 30 powered version. You
don't ALWAYS have to use all the power of the 50, but if you want it, and
all you've got is a 30, you'll find it "lacking".
You could even get a Rossi 53 in there!!! :-)

First thing I noticed was the comment about "waisting" money:-))) I wonder
if that's a 32inch waste:-)))

And that's where all my Rossi's came from too.
If you catch this Sean, are there any 80's still for sale?

Is the .53 a good motor for the Raptor Beav? Just curious because I was
thinking of trying one in my next ship to see how it compares with the OS
50.
Btw, I don't think you can beat Cyberheli for price and service. My last
kit took three days flat to arrive!

The mounting and exhaust dimensions are the same as the OS Ian, but I don't
know about the rest coz I've never put one in a Raptor.

That's an expensive comparison test for sure :-))
