I'm looking to get rid of my Futaba 6XHS for a better radio.
I'd like to stay with Futaba though.
Any recommendations as to which one is preferred?

You've really only got two choices (new that is), and that's the 9C or 9Z.
The latter is close to £1000 but it can do all sorts of wonderful things.
For mere mortals the 9C is a superb bit of kit:o)

Of course you could always go SH and look for one of the 7 or 8 channel
models. However I think this might be a waste. Just go 9C:o)))

You might also look into picking up a futaba 8U even though it's discontinued now.I picked one up for $175.00 check on ebay and runryder etc.It has 8 model memory used for helis, gliders, etc etc great radio for the money.:)

The new FF9 seems to be the best value, most recommended Tx. The 9ZHP
is awesome, but it'll take you a while to get your head round it.
What's your budget?

You're obviously not going to bail out of the hobby anytime soon Biggie, so
(if cash allows) I'd say go for the 9C.

The 9Z is also a great radio, but there're a lot of "features" you're never
likely to use and if you've got a HH gyro (like you have) and a governor
(like you SHOULD have:-) then the 9C will EAT any heli job you throw at it.

I have used and liked my 8UAFS for several years. Recently I got the
9C ($269 from ServoCity.com with free shipping) and like it even more.
It is very similar to the 8U series, but the menu structure is far far
easier to navigate since you get a higher level list of options and
can select through them with a rotary wheel instead of having to step
through the choices one at a time. And many functions display a
summary of all parameters at once, making it easier to visualize.

The only down side I see so far is that my CAMPAC modules only hold 6
models (for a total of 14) instead of 8.

Oh, and changing models is faster and easier on the 9C.

Does that mean that it's the first item on the menu instead of stuck
halfway down the list ? On the FF8 that always seems to me to be the
stupidest arrangement they could've picked :-)

I haven't checked carefully but it seems that when you enter the basic
programming mode the first choice is the model selection. It is
already highlighted.... all you do is press the wheel for a second or
two and the model menu opens with the model number already
highlighted. Turn the wheel to the desired model number, press, press
again to confirm and you're done.

With respects, I don't think it matters how they design the darn thing. Most
folks will get used to whatever menu they program but inevitably, someone,
somewhere, won't like it. You simply can't please everyone, all the time.

All things considered, I think the 9C and 9Z radios are first class. Is there
room for improvement? You bet, but all in all, they're tough to beat.

You could always use the 48K Campac. This will hold 24 model memories.

Does anyone do an aftermarket 48K CAMPAC? I just can't bring myself
to pay Futaba's price. I have two of the regular ones from Rene Teo
(is he still around) and they were an excellent deal at $20 each.
Considering what is in them, even that is expensive.

Worst comes to worst, I'll make some and sell 'em. Unless the 48K is
a lot more complex, I could bang them out at about 10/hour.
