View Full Version : C30 Featheing Shaft Bearings -
I've been thinking about replacing the feathering shaft bushings in my
Concept SR-X with the ball bearing kit (KYOE5010). I really can't see that
such an upgrade would make any functional improvement to the flapping
hinges, but BB's are ALWAYS better over bushings, right?

Not in this case Greg. The bushes work perfectly well and the needle bearingi
upgrade is just an expense with no real benefit. I've used both and there's
absolutely NO difference when the thing's up in th'air. A blob of grease on
the bushes keeps them in perfectly servicable order, so unless yours are
knackered, I'd just grease 'em and re-fit 'em.

That's what I figured. I've been flying it with the stock bushings since it
was new and guess I'll just leave things alone. I just felt the urge to
throw some money at my poor neglected Concept to show her I stilled cared.

Get a VR head for it, and on the flybar cradle, fit an opposing ball on the
other side of the cradle (there's only one each side as standard). Then make
up a "Y" link so the link going from the mixer arms to the flybar connects
to both balls on the flybar cradle and the one on the mixer.
This gets rid of any rotational movement of the mixer base once and for all.
(Crabbed from MHW that btw, but it works, so I thought I'd mention it)
Another mod is the servo tray. The VR version is a lot more rigid, so the
heli has a more locked in feel.
That should get rid of a few dollars :-))

Sweet!!! I've already got the Zeal aluminum seesaw with single steel balls
on each arm, so it looks like an easy mod to drill and tap the holes for two
additional balls. But what's the preferred way to make a Y-link?

I made a pair with three pieces of wire (each) and a soldering gun. That way
I had 3 pre-threaded ends and the job looked very neat and wasn't about to
fall apart. I wrapped the joint with fine copper wire before I soldered too.
That's two rods with a single 170 degree bend in each and a single straight
piece. Piss easy to make and perfect for the Zeal see-saw.

You must be very skilled, installing a clutch while typing newsgroup
replies!

No probs Blair.

When I'm flying, it's treating me very well, but the weather hasn't been
ultra co-operative of late. When it's not blowing a bastard gale, it's
pissing down :-)

How'd you manage to bugger the Milli clutch? Starting in Idle up 100?:-)

That's NO problem to a heli flyer :-)

Hi Beav,
Beats the hell out of me.
I'm running a YS 91 so that might have something to do with it ;-)
I had a clutch bell bearing going bad (made my ears bleed), then it
just went.
Off to try a new one.
Later,
Blair
(Beavis' illegitimate love child).
