I am a current AMA member.
I load up the van and go to the local park to fly (the city does not
restrict flying)
I do all the range checks etc.
There is nobody around.
I get dumb thumbs and lose the plane.
I break a window. Am I covered?
I crash into a parked car...am I covered?
I crash onto a freeway causing an accident, which leads to hazardous
waste spilling all over, closing the freeway into San Francisco for 4
hours..am I covered?
What if it wasn't dumb thumbs, but an unforeseen esc flameout?..same
answers?
Yeah, yeah, I know...getting kind of silly, but somebody asked me if I
was covered if I flew at the park, and I said..yes of course....then I
got to thinking, and reading......now I'm not so sure....are these park
flyers ok?
I know there are probably too many variables to list, and the lawyers
would probably have to sort out a catastrophe, just wondering.
And it has been painfully slow in this forum....too windy to fly....
Thanks
Ralph Matile

What are the guidlines? is there anything in them about only flying in
approved fields, or can you apply AMA guidelines to where you fly?

The AMA coverage is considered secondary insurance. If your applicable carrier
(homeowner's. or other) runs out of coverage, the AMA carrier continues. It's the
type most schools use, so the premiums are lower than if it was a primary
insurance.

Although I've always thought that you had to fly at an "approved site," I
can't find reference to that on the website. Can anyone say with 100%
certainty that you can fly at a park, etc., provided there are no signs that
specifically say model airplanes are prohibited?
