I have a Kyosho Perfex Tx that I'd like to use instead of an Acoms I
have, what are the recommendations on using a Tx and Rx made by
different manufacturers?

Do Kyosho make their own Tx/RX or are they re-branded?

Thanks

I believe that is the transmitter that Kyosho packages with their Mini-Z's.
BEWARE,... that particular Tx has very limited range.
It's fine to run a Mini-Z with, but anything that is gonna be very far away
from you, may lose your Tx's signal.
I bought an extra Perfex transmitter, that I was gonna give to a friend to use
with his boat. I wanted to get him away from the stick radio that came with his
boat, and let him try a pistol style radio.
Upon conducting a radio-range check, there was not enough range to risk using
it with a boat. (When a BOAT dies on you, it's swimmin' time.)
BTW, I still have the Perfex TX new in package, if anyone needs one... email
me.

NO expert here, but I have switched crystals around with different
manufacturers Tx & Rx units, and had no problems. Some of the radio guru's that
frequent this board would be better to answer that one.

Not sure on that either.

Good Luck.

OK, I checked... and you're right. Kyosho does package the Perfex with the Mad
and Megaforce. I would think the range should be good enough to run those
models.
Soooo... that brings to mind what could be the range problem. The Mini-Z MAY
NOT have a receiver capable of much range, compared to their other R/C's. It
is a tiny thing, compared to the average radio receiver.
I will conduct another radio *range-check* with the Perfex transmitter and a
REAL R/C receiver.
I will get back to you with the results.
If the range is acceptable... I may get some use out of it after all.
Thanks for the idea.

The perfex control was made by KO... The new version mini-z comes with a KO
made Tx, EX 7.
The perfex can fit with any AM receiver, and crystal range 27MHz ~29MHz.
If you want another better performance radio system, try Futaba Megatech
junior 2PHKA. Contact me for a new set price arround USD65 including
shipping cost.... (one pistol, one receiver and 2 servos, servo horns,
battery case, crystal set, instructions etc)
