View Full Version : How do you fly a LOOP?

Getting brave now... I can sort of do FFF circuits and have always
wanted to do a loop. Any help or tricks would be much appreciated.

My guess is that you get flyiing forward as fast as possible coming
right to left, pull all the way back on the elevator and hold it
there. Then once the heli is pointing straitght up (1/4 around the
loop) pull the throttle all the way back to reverse the blade pitch.
Once it is 1/2 way around (inverted) you push the throttle forward. at
the bottom you bring the elevator back to home or pick up the pieces.

Does this sound right?

Yup, but you don't need all that much negative at the top of the loop, if
you use too much it will make a kind of
"e" shape.

You don't have to put that much elevator in either cos you can have speed to
carry round a big loop.

I would go all the way back on elevator for your first loops, and then you
can experiment.

I presume you have an idle up set?

Good luck!

It would be better if you thought about the stick as collective rather than throttle.

And make sure you have a proper idle-up or 'stunt' mode before you start aerobatics.

That'll kill off most of your forward speed. Just apply a little back cyclic
and watch her climb.

It'll no longer climb. It'll shoot off flying horizontally with the nose
vertical AND it'll start falling like a brick as it'll not be generating
lift.

There's that brick thing again.

Plenty of height. Not too much so that it unsettles you though. Fly straight
and level. Pull gently back on the cyclic (leave it there for the duration).
As reach 1/4-1/3 of the way around you can remove a little collective (you
actually don't have to though). 3/4 of the way around you can add collective
back in and remove the back cyclic. Land and whoop it up. :)

It won't look pretty but you can work on that.

I came upon www.littlerotrs.com recently, it has descriptions of how to
do basic aerobatics. check it out

It also depends on the model too. A 90 size will do really big loops as my
X-cell pro 90 did some loops nearly 200 foot in dameter. A 30 size will
struggle if its set up is not correct as the power is not really good enough
if you pull back too hard on the cyclic diring the first quarter part.
Just take your time and it will come to you. If you have a simulator use it
first to get the basic feel of the manouvre and create an escape route if it
goes wrong so you are back in a familiar flying position.
