Wim Forton

I'm new to RC heli's and I wonder, is there a "perfect" way to hold a
transmitter, do you use your thumbs, other fingers...?

Usually with your hands :0)
But seriously it all depends on what feels comfortable to you. There are
the die hard finger and thumb people and others who swear by using the
thumb method. It's up to you, myself, I use the thumb methodas I find it
easier to hold and to reach the idleup switches etc
Try both on a simulator (if you have one) and see which you prefer

use forefinger and thumb together on each stick and speak to Beav about
getting a Carbon radio tray so you don't have to support the weight of the
tranny. makes life soo much better

Don't listen to those who tell you one way or the other.
Whatever feels right for YOU is the one to use.

You can react faster with single digit control.

For what its worth, I hold it finger and thumb in a pinch. I started
with my hand wrapped around the tranny but when I upgraded to a 9ZHP
which is larger, I found it difficult to wrap my hands round so
changed my style. Still holding the gimbles in a pinch style, but my
hand is more rested on the top. I can reach the front 4 switches but
not the back 4 easily, but 4 switches is all I need an with the 9ZHP I
can assign switches at will.

Biggie is right ! what ever feels right for you mate.
When I was learning to fly, my tutor always kept telling me to fly fingers /
thumb method. I could not get on with that method. I had been RCing for
many years (cars, boats & planes) and always used thumbs and for him to try
and change me was just not going to work, SO! I carried on with thumbs and
it has to this day, has not been a problem.

Dear MPA,
You are not qualified to offer this kind of advice as you are utterly crap
at flying. Stick to the camera stuff 'mate'. I fly with finger & thumb on
each stick and could embarrass you deeply from what I've seen of your flying
in your (rather dull) videos.
Just my tuppence worth.

I just caught this thread Wim and the simple answer is "what feels most
comfortable to you"
I fly using fingers and thumbs and a tray to hold my Tx (I've got a Tx that
NEEDS a tray and comes complet with it's own "form fitted" example, and I
find them excellent for teaching new guys with, but once the FNG's have
reached the point where they can fly on their own withough smacking the
heli, they make their own mind up. Some stick with trays and others go with
neckstraps while others just go with the bare Tx. Trays require fingers and
thumbs, none of the other two methods do, so it's not a "Di it THIS way
forever" thing.
Try them all and when you're happy, you've got the right one.

Make sure your aerial is pointing upwards, not downwards is a good start.

But better still if it's pointing straight out.

True enough... that's how I hold mine actually. I feel more comfortable
holding it that way.

When mine is pointing straight out, I usually prefer that someone else is holding it.
