hi...

I have just gotten a Raptor .30 V2 ARF "kit".

I would like to run 20% or 30% Nitro.

Is there a preferred brand that works well?

I'm in Australia, near Melbourne.

Thanks very much@

Why would you like to run 20% or 30% even ?

Give 15% a go, I have an Ergo 50 & 60 size helis and I run 15% in both (both
OS motors) , Powermaster is the expensive choice and blows lots of smoke,
Cool Power (what I run )is cheaper and gives off slightly less smoke . I'm
located in Perth and fly at Whiteman park which hosts several clubs. More
info about Whiteman Park here: www.wamasc.ogr.au

I've been flying approx 5 months now and am having a great time..

Have fun :-)

15% to 20% is fine.
Be a while before you need 30% Nitro
20% will give you enough zing.

Ive got an Ergo60 almost twice it's "out of the box" weight and only
need 20% Nitro to keep it up at full head speed with some alltitude.

My 46 Ergo has run 10% but prefers 15% which is enough to stop you
having to fiddle with mixtures so often in it.
10% needs to be one click off lean run to stop engine sagging and it
gets a bit close to too hot at times, 15% not so lean and still keeps
good engine speed in manouvers.
More than 15% it goes harder of course but just eats more juice and
all I want is enough for it to respond properly in all manouvers
without bogging down or running close to lean and tiwddling the carb
more than occasionally so as not to roast the engine...

Ive run the same fuel and oil from the begining and mix my own so can
gauge the effect of changing the mix myself without being influenced
by new batches of premix or change of brands.

I tend to think more than 20% is bordering on overkill for most, there
are some who have the gear and need it, just not everyone.

Im in Melb
I cant suggest a good premixed fuel to use.
Shops vary what they use a bit and likely to due imported shipments I
dont know but I do know I like to stick to one brand of whatever for
the life of an engine.
(a throwback from 2 stroke racing)
About the 7th premix container I bought I started mixing my own and
have since for the last 2 years.
That also left me enough spare fuel containers to store nitro in and
make 10 or 15 litre mix batch at a time in a 20l drum decanted into 5
litre containers to store..

Mixing your own gives you plenty of time to source the same fuel not
relying on whatever the heli shop is selling when you go to get fuel.

Ive found this of great benefit when making adjustment to the mix and
gauging the effect without wondering whether it was a change of brand
that makes the change on how the heli runs or being faced with a brand
change when it wasnt what you intended.

If you want to mix your own and have the place to store it properly
and safely.

I wrote a program to do fuel ratio to volume calculations and a few
other calcs for heli's
Handy if like me your too lazy to put pen to paper.

BP depot in Dandenong sells Pure Meth
25litre drums $45
Chelt rd just near Bennet st
03 97067441
Dont use Car Racing meth it has acetone in it.

VP racing Nitro
(ask nicely and tell him what it is for.)
siper f spares
(drag racing shop)
92 to 96 hume hwy
Somerton
03 9 3052522
$17.50 a litre last time

I get my Klotz Techniplate synth oil from
Peninsula Model supplies Mornington (JR dealer)
or Saturn Hobbies in Bentleigh
5 litre about $85

I used to use 2% Castor as well to protect from lean runs (or so they
say) but found it was making me lean more to get the same power I get
without it and just synth alone, so I use synth and dont go as lean on
the mixtures and dont need to, have plenty of power.

For my worth to date, castor oil is old beans and makes a mess of the
heli (even 2% of the stuff is enough to add goop factor) and candies
the exhaust pipe and has not done me any good I can see to date, I
roasted a motor early on and had castor in it so never saw the benefit
claimed by some.

Cheers
Dave

Have fun youll enjoy it.

BTW good idea to call up Fri or Say maybe and make sure they are
meeting sometime the weather turns real nasty down there (this time of
year) so they have to pack it, keep an eye on the weather if it looks
bad call up pres and check if the meet is still on.

Sat looks OK but Sunday is a bit iffy.

Even if it does rain you can meet others and check it out in the mean
time just be sure and get down there early on.
Id say if it is going to rain it will be later on rather than early as
it looks so far.

See panel on the left, "Weather Stats."
That puts the Aus BOM weather on the taskbar.
Handy to keep an eye on weather and you can set alarms on certain
conditions prevailing in it to notify you.
If you set it to Frankston for readings you'd get a good idea of the
weather down at Carum.

Have fun.
