can some one with pcb building knowledge tell me if this will work to remove the unwanted copper?
i know its not the best for this use, but its what i got on hand

Not sure what this is...
RadioShack sells ferric chloride (FeCl3), that works well. You do have to be very careful with it as it stains everything and eats anything metal.

its a cleaner, and is 20% Hcl.

I've never heard of it and certainly not of anyone using for that purpose. What's it intended to clean ?
All you can do is try it. Generally I'd think the chance of a cleaner successfully dissolving copper without touching the resist over the wanted bits was quite low but it might just work. Let us know how it goes.

well, tommorow im going to take it to school where they have an etching tank.
i tossed a penny in some The works and it just kinda fizzed, but if you take about half a 20 oz pop bottle and a bunch of tin foil shake, toss, it makes a nice boom
