View Full Version : Truck VS Car?

I'm JUST starting out, and I'm looking into a RTR gas-powered RC. At
first I had decided on an on-road car because I live around a decent
amount of paved places, and I'd like the SPEED. But, then I considered
that I, eventually, might get bored just tooling around on the
pavement all the time, and may enjoy trying to jump things, etc. With
the trucks comparitive speed(?), would the versatility would be worth
it, or will trying stuff like ramps just completely destroy it?

1) I gaurantee that stadium trucks will still be able to go stupid fast with
the right gearing.
2) Stadium Truck can jump and will take bit more abuse than Touring Cars.
3) Crashing ANYTHING on asphalt will break it eventually. Dirt and SHORT
grass is much preferred.

If you're just starting out, ANYTHING will seem fast... be it off-road or
on-road. If you prefer watching "Illegal Import Racing" more than "Monster
Truck Friday" then stick with On-Road... if you prefer the latter and like
jumping and don't mind getting dirty and risking breaking parts then go with
off-road... there's more to it that just what's fun to drive sometimes (for
lack of a better way to say it).. the whole tuning and getting hop ups like
rims and painting bodies will add to the fun. If you like the way cars look
and like to add mods then you might like cars. I do prefer off-road for
bashing around by myself usually.. but even jumping the same old truck all
the time can get boring just as easily as tooling around the pavement.

Do not get a strictly on-road car. You will be severly dissapointed,
and bored quickly. normal streets don't play well with them, they are
too rocky, uneven, and dusty to get decent performance. I would
reccomend either a rally style car, or a stadium truck or buggy. A
1/10 buggy will go many places that an onroad won't, and also will be
just as fast. May not handle as good on the street, but you will get
bored with the street, and start jumping curbs, ramping driveways,
hitting berms. This is where a buggy or stadium truck will shine.
MUCH more fun IMHO.

You need a 2wd buggy. Buggies can be very fast and they can also handle
some nice jumps and off-road action. They won't turn and brake as well as a
road car and they won't bash through rough terrain like a truck but they do
very well in the all-purpose role.

The way you put that makes you wonder why companies even make on-road cars
:)

I love RCing, and i do not own a Rally style car, a stadium truck OR a
buggy. I have 3 Touring cars, 1 pan car and 2 Monster trucks. But it is
definately more fun to have an off-road vehicle if you dont have any friends
to drive with. On-road becomes more fun when you have a whole bunch of
guys.. throw down some cones and have a race. Personally i dont like stadium
trucks all that much... I just don't get what the point is.. sure you can
jump off a curb, but you can't get back on it aftewards :P

Hmm.. my buddy's T3 never got back on curbs... it always got stuck halfway
with the front wheels dangling and the chassis sitting on the edge of the
curb. Maybe different heights of curb? Car tuning? Actually there's some big
ass curbs out there I couldn't even get my stampede up.. but my clod can
clear just about all of them.

My curbs are about 5 inches high, and are rounded. I would have trouble if
they were perfectly square.
