Hi People ,

I am new to this group , can anyone please explain what needs to be done to
convert an RC car ( radio shack "Carnivore) from 27mhz to 40mhz ? I have a
40mhz xtal for the control but what needs to be changed on the reciever in
the car?? If it's any help the IC used in the Receiver is an RS-6

Your help would be greatly appreciated

Joey

both the reciever and the transmitter have to have the crystals swapped out.

Unfortunately you're going to have to order a specific receiver to mate with
your radio. It's a pity the radio didn't come with a receiver. Also I
don't know if that Radio Shack (duck for nasty comments from the purist
crowd) car uses standard servo signals for the speed control and steering.
I'm sorry but you might have to rebuild the entire steering and powertrain
systems to use your nice radio.

Am I missing something here, to change from 27 to 40 Mhz is more than just
changing the crystals in the Transmitter and Receiver, or is it.

Actually you probably can't convert from 27 to 40 just by changing
crystals, the whole radio part has to be retuned. Crystal is only for
small changes, you can change them only within one band.

Even if the radio is retuned, the range may be severely
limited, maybe down to 10 feet, maybe even less. There
are capacitors and coils in the circuits that might need
changing to get the range back, not worth the cost.
The servos may work with another brand radio, but there's
no guarantee. This would be easy for the LHS to checkout.
Best bet could be a used 2 channel Futaba/Air/etc. for a few $$
if money is tight.

Yeah, you need to completely change the circuitry to change a frequency BAND
usually - crystals are only used for frequencies within one band.
