View Full Version : Which battery charger??

Hi
I'm looking to buy a good battery charger, which I want to use for:

a). TX & RX packs (NICD or NIMH)
b). 7.2v battery for use starting my T-Maxx 2.5 car
c). For various packs for an ECO 8, or Logo (or other electric Heli)

I've looked at the SuperNova, and like the look of it. I also like the look
of the Triton charger, which is on the www.towerhobbies.com page.

I am in the UK, so would prefer to source in the UK (although this doesn't
matter if a product is better, and only available in the US)

I want to be able to charge NICD, NIMH, and possibly Lithium (are these used
much).

The above is a minimum.... if it does anything else, then thats a bonus...

Oh... I'd also like to be able to charge NICD & NIMH cells that I use in my
TV remote etc... (I presume I can just get a holder, with the suitable
banana connectors...?)

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Have a look at overlander

http://www.overlander.co.uk/default.asp

They are VERY helpful and really know there stuff - UK based and excellent
postal service.

I bought the Robbe II Infinity charger on there recommendation and it was
the best £150 I ever spent on modelling stuff.

Hi
Thanks for the advice.

Is this twice as good as the SuperNova?? What does it do that the SuperNova
won't??

Thanks

The Duratrax Digital Charger is a great charger. It does not do sub-c
cells (single cell), but everything else. In addition, it will also
deep cycle (discharge) your packs. This is important for long battery
life. I am not sure if it will do Lithium.

I have a supernova and a robbe infinity 2 ,
both are
great chargers.
you can get the robbe infinity for £97.95 from germany , plus about £6, 5
day ups delivery.
go to www.andys-hobbyshop.de click on robbe then on lader.
You fax your order , if you want to do this specify english lang software.
The infinity and supernova both charge nicad and nimh , supernova does 1 -25
ceels , infinity does 1 -30,
the othe differences are:
the fan on the infinity only runs when required , it runs on the supenova
all the time.
the infinity has a back lit display
the infinity has 2 outputs , but the second set supply a fixed non timed 250
ma tx/rx output
the infinity has a pc inteface capability , if for some reason you want to
make the cable and download the program , i did it , never used it !

if you require li-ion capability look at the simprop intelli-control , it
looks the same as the supernova , but the latest one, v3 i think has li-ion
capability , about £70 from andys-hobbyshop.

also there is the shulze chaemeleon from west london models uk , about £120.

I think li-ion packs are rather new to be being used much , its up to you.

for your requirements though you won't go far wong with a supernova.

regards

Ian

If you want the ultimate charger, get the orbit pro with the new updated
firmware. It is capable of outputting 300w (I believe), wich means you can
charge a few packs of the same capacity in series and have them all done at
the same time (if you are in a hurry, that is). Otherwise, the triton is a
good choice. Personally I would pick the triton over the supernova.

Why don't you get the best charger in the world.
The best in the world in F5B and F5F are all using a Schulze charger.
I my self have the -330d and it IS the very best.
Search for Schulze and forget the rest.
JD -In Denmark, so sorry for the language
PS. I have nothing to do with Schulze except I use their products.

I have a Supernova and would thoroughly recommend it, it will do
everything you ask with the possible exception of Lithium which you
may possibly be able to charge on the lead-acid program.

I have a supernova as well and have been very pleased with it...very nice casing
material surrounding the internal electronics...with good heat dissipation.

I've just bought an Orbit so my SuperNova will be up for grabs very
shortly :-)
