Hi Darrell,
CSM sim will not run under Windows XP - I tried. But you can fix it, if you
do what I did for a Win 2000 machine that also cannot run it:
1. Using a system CD for Win 98 or Win 95 (or DOS) make a bootable floppy,
or a bootable CDR.
2. Also copy all the CSM files onto the floppy or that bootable CDR.
3. When you feel like simulating, stick in that disk, reboot, and it will
work. Remove disk and re-boot to resume working, if you must :-)
[To boot from a CDR you may need to check the CMOS settings. Hit DEL during
a cold boot.]
The reason is that the CSM sim runs in DOS, and DOS is present in Win 95,
Win 98 and Win Millennium (I think) but Dos is entirely absent from Win
2000, Win NT, and Win XP. These support a only simulation of DOS, and that's
not good enough for CSM.
If the hard disk(s) were formatted with NTFS then you won't be able to read
or write to them while running DOS. That's why you need all files on that
new disk. If it's a CDR, then your settings will not be saved, but at least
you can use it. They can be saved (slowly) on a floppy of course.
Good Luck!
Malcolm
