Hi guys,

Our club home page, www.voaflyers.org, is hosted by my internet provider, one.net, pretty much for free. One.net gives me 100MB of space of which voaflyers takes up about 60%. One.net was bought by another company a year ago. I just got a notice that this new company is discontinuing this generous space and now only provides 5MB, but I can buy more if I like, how generous.

We need to decide what we want to do. Up until now I only had to pay for the domain name, $10 a year. Buying web space will raise the cost.

So, I would like to know if we want to continue our fairly large web site or maybe just go with a one pager with crucial info.

If we want to maintain a larger site, how much money are we willing to spend on this.

Thanks,

Marcel.

Marcel,
How much money are we talking here? If it's only a few dollars, I would like to see the site continue as is. However, if it becomes too expensive to maintain the current size, we could cut it down to a single page with a description of the club, a map, and maybe a few lines describing current topics or upcoming events. We could then email newsletters as PDF files and use this discussion board for any other communications.

I for one really appreciate the work that you put into the website. It has become somewhat stagnant in the last few months, however (probably due to lack of new material). Ted probably has a better idea how much we could afford to spend on this.

Don,

I asked for info on cost, I expect it to be in the $50 range or so, I hope to hear back soon from the new company. The web page has been kind of a hobby for me and it's hard to come up with new stuff. I have had some luck getting articles but we might just lack the critical mass to have a real lively web site.

Marcel.

Guys,

Issue resolved, I found a free web hosting service, we will just have to deal with some advertisements. Here is the new link for now: http://voaflyers.topcities.com/
This will change to our old link once everything has been transfered.

Marcel.

GREAT!

Now let's get some new pictures and articles in there. I'll start bringing my camera to the field.

Hi guys!
I'm back from vacation!

We really could afford the $50 easily, but only if we get more serious about collecting dues!

After paying our current years AMA fee, we now have about $30. Collecting dues continues to be problematic as I am only at the field every other week or so.

So far we have (real papers not with me) about 4-5 people paid up for the year, although everyone is willing to pay!

This cash collection will be brought together as we go along, but will take a little time.

Hi Guys,

I missed this thread earlier. Marcel, I'd advocate having a commercial-free site with our own domain. Nothing is free, and I'm to the point of avoiding visiting a site if I see "Geocities" in the URL, because I know I'm going to get buried with pop-ups. If you're willing to maintain it, I think we should be willing to pay for it. If we don't want to increase dues, we can just pass the hat or allow the treasurer to accept contributions. I'd certainly pay more than $10 to hang out with you guys. ;)
