Hello, I am a newcomer here at this forum! I just bought a new savage 4.6 rtr and today I did the break in process..
I did not have any particular problem (idle was set fine, engine started well, did not stop etc.) but in the end, the performance was far from what I expected. I was with a friend of mine who had an identical savage (brand new as well - we bought them together) followed the same procedure as me and had way much better results....
My engine sounded a bit hoarse, it produced a lot of smoke and did not have enough power - did not accelerate much...
WHAT WENT WRONG????
any help will be vastly appreciated...

Did you lean out the carb (high speed needle)?
from what you said...produced lots of smoke,..sounded a bit horse...
sounds like you have the carb set too rich.
try turning the big needle clockwise 1/8 of a turn and tune until it stops breaking up
or sounds smooth..exhaust smoke should be a thin steady blue trail at full throttle.
once that is done set the low end needle for acceleration. small adjustments go a
long way. Good luck

thanks for the advice, but unfortunately this is not the solution.. I did this already and did not see any improvement... The engine did not sound right even before the tuning, when my friends sounded much better... any other ideas?
PS: in the extreme solution of buying a new engine (which I don't even want to think about), does everything start from the absolute beginning? will I be able to make it perform at its best?

does the engine have less power when you take off, when you pick up speed or all the time?

Is there any way you can post a video of the engine running so we can see what the truck is doing? Its really hard to say whats wrong with the truck without actually seeing it...know what I mean? Another option if you cant get it running well is that you could call hpi and explain whats going on with the engine,,send it in to them for inspection and or repair or replacement..if thats the case. Eventually when you get more into the hobby you will upgrade to a more reliable engine like Novarossi, OS, RB, OPS,etc....know what im saying? Most RTR engines are all known for erratic running
so dont feel bad. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

It has less power when I try to accelerate... My friends goes like hell and he barely touches the throttle, when I am full throttle and it goes much slower...
anyways, thanks a lot guys for the response..I'll try to post a video, although it might not be great qiality..
