What's the biggest engine I can drop into this kit (HPI Nitro MT
Racer) without over stressing the parts that it comes with?
Is a .21 engine overkill?
This is my first RC kit and I've been reading up online...from what
I've read...most .12 engines seem sluggish...should I just go to a HPI
..15 engine? I'd like this truck to haul, but still run reliably. I
will of course take all the proper break-in precautions.
I used to build models (planes & cars) when I was a young lad, so I am
very excited to build my first RC kit! I can't wait!
I'm glad I found such an informative and knowledgable forum. TIA for
any help, info and/or advice.

An O.S. 15 CV-RX with PS would work really well for you.

The HPI 15 FE is a drop in. and with a tuned exhaust, it flys!...you can go
further, like the 5.5mm carb, port match the header, flow the head, etc. But
just the engine and exhaust will kick to pants off the .12

Thanks for the suggestions so far...
What do y'all think of the Fantom FR Series - F015-S .15 Side
Exhaust, w/Slide Carburetor?
I heard their electric motors are pretty reputable but what do y'all
think of their nitro motors?

A .21 will fit with a little modification. You would need to drill new
motor mount holes and you would need new motor mounts, but after that there
are many .21s that will fit in. As long as you don't use pull start, they
would fit. I've found that with a .21 you tend to go through a lot more
CVDs than normal. And I bolted my slipper clutch through because it did
nothing but slip, no matter how much I tightened it.
